Sunday evening at race time,I was pumped and ready to give the 300 XC/W what I called a good workout. I got a really good start, was in fourth after the first two miles, right on the rear tire of the third place guy. Going into a left hand sweeper, he went wide and I decided to stay inside, just clip the cedar bush and put a pass on him. No one told me that the cedar bush had a three inch diameter tree of some kind growing right up through the middle of it. I tagged the large limb with my left handle bar, then found myself doing one of my best Superman imitations, all the way to the other side of the track. After I collected myself off the ground, picked the bike up and inspected it, I was in last place. After I got back into the race, I figured the only way I could catch any of these guys, was to do all the jumps,do the crazy creek crossing, and do the giant log crossings.:eek2: After the first two laps I gave up on the giant log crossings, all they did was slow me down and rip the skid plate bolts out, but I stayed after the creek crossing. I could gain about 20 seconds on anyone not doing the creek. On the last lap, I dropped off into the creek, crossed the water, through the mud pit, and then I started up the off camber little ledge you had to traverse to get to the top. I thought I had enough momentum to make it all the way up, but just as I reached the top, my rear wheel slid to the left real hard and the bike went down on the right side. Some how I managed to land on top of the bike. The left foot peg got underneath my armor and like to have ripped my right booby off. I slid off the bike, back down the hill, and just rolled over and laid on my back moaning. I can take a lot of pain, but man that hurt like all get out, and it also knocked the breath out of me. Some young man at the top had grabbed the bike and keep it running for me, and two other guys came down to check on me. It was so muddy and slick at the bottom, they had to help me up the hill. There was no way anyone could walk up that slippery thing! After all that, I hobbled on to the finish line with a 10th place. Like someone said..........."some days you ride the bike, some days the bike rides you" Seems like Sunday was the latter. I wish I had some race pics but I don't, all I go is this ugly shot!
