While traveling our country, a young Indian man name Chris (CJ) was offered a closed beta test to have those interested follow him along the way by phone. The device/software/service is called Kadoink. Having been on the road for two weeks last year with three bikers and a monkey, I saw how rewarding it can be to know that people followed our journey from their computers and appreciated updates as often as we could get them out. We had a laptop and an air card, but it wasn't fool proof and took time and effort while resting, eating, and otherwise enjoying ourselves.
Yes, it would have been easier to leave the technology behind and run off to oblivion, but our familes and friends hounded us about checking in periodically to ensure our overall safety. We also got advice and recommendations along the way for routes, food, and lodging - which sometimes came too late because we didn't want to constantly drag out the computer.
Enter Kadoink. While it was in closed beta, I inquired with the guy that was backing it to see if additional testers might be needed/wanted. I explained that I had a long solo trip to Alabama planned, and that it would be a perfect companion. Sadly, it wasn't available then - but it is now! I've gotten in at the open beta stage, and as of today I've got a profile set up: SQUEAKY
(there's a way to embed the widget here on the forum, but I haven't figured it out yet)
Take a look, choose to "follow me" if you'd like updates, etc. You can even leave a voice message for me that everyone else can hear from the widget too!
