BEDFORD -- Traffic has been severely delayed in both directions on Texas 183 this afternoon after a fatal motorcycle accident, with backups extending miles in each direction.
Investigators were still on the scene at 4 p.m. after the 2 p.m. crash at eastbound 183 and Brown Trail, and several lanes of traffic were blocked, Bedford police spokesman Lt. Kirk Roberts said.
There was no estimate as to when the highway would be reopened, he said.
A man on a Suzuki motorcycle was driving east in the left lane when he swerved to avoid slow traffic, Roberts said. The driver, who was not identified, swerved across the center lane and into the right lane, where he lost control and fell off the bike, Roberts said. The man ended up under a pick-up, Roberts said.
He was taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was pronounced dead, Roberts said.
