I rode, for a short time, in the Mexico Recon before I went down. I spent 2 days in a Monterrey hospital and had surgery on my foot. I am about to find out if the surgery has to be redone in the U.S. due to poor operating and repair procedures done in Mexico. You don't want to go down in Mexico.

So, no compound fracture, tourniquet or near death experiences?

How did you go down?

Hope everything works out and you heal fast.

Welcome! If I were to travel to Mexico, I'd opt for the insurance covering air ambulance transport, have the doc splint it and fly back to have the orthopedic surgeon of my choice repair it. Ortho stuff is seldom that time sensitive.

10-12-07 Mexico motorcycle accident update.
Here is the scoop on my foot. I just left the orthopedic surgeon. He said that basically my heel is shattered. He said that the Mexican Surgeon did a terrible job and should have known from the amount of damage to not attempt the surgery and should have recommended to ship me to the U. S. The damage is too severe for the Ortho Dr. here to perform the necessary work. He is sending me to a foot orthopedic surgeon which he said will involve foot reconstructive surgery to repair damage from the accident and to correct the Mexican Surgeons work. I have an appointment on Friday with the specialist.
DO NOT HAVE SURGERY IN MEXICO!!!!!

:tab Just out of curiosity, were you wearing dirt style boots? I got mine specifically for better foot protection in the even the bike lands on me. Several times, they have done an excellent job of this. While I have been bruised pretty good, nothing has ever been broken.

The accident was my fault. Going to fast down the mountain. Took the curve on the inside and couldn't come out of it. Crossed the road and hit a concrete barrier. Live and learn as they say.

Tourmeister, no I was not wearing dirt style boots. I was wearing waterproof Gortex padded steel toed boots I thought would be suffecient. NOT!

ALLEN, Lets just say that the wreck didn't kill me and she hasn't either yet so life is good. I would go out on a limb and say she is pretty PISSED!:eek2:

Tell her how lucky she is that you made it home alive. Concrete barriers can be deadly. Hope a good surgeon gets that foot taken care of.

Note to self, Call TXMedic before contacting emergency services

Disclaimer: you should always seek proper medical care in case of emergency, this was intended as a joke from an expired EFR to a real Medic. Also note to self need to get recertified

Dan, Bob Mostue here. I am so sorry about your accident. But I was wondering about the bike. Did it do OK? Did you make it up to the high altitude? I am sure glad that you bought it becouse I tryed to set it up to do rides like the Recon. Did you ride it from Corpus? Did it being top heavy
(due to the big tank) have anything to do with your crash? I am sure sorry
that I wasnt able to make this trip - the wife had a date with the Dr for a medical procedure. The after ride pics are really nice, I noticed your bike in one on the first pictures. I still miss that DR.

Actually I was quite surprised. I used 4 quarts of oil on the trip. The bike puffed snmoke everytime I shifted gears. I discovered this about five days after I bought it. Once recovered I am going to have it looked at to see if it is rings or valve guides. Other that the oil use it ran like a scalded dog. :eek2It had nothing to do with the wreck. All my fault. It was a great adventure up to that point of impact. Attached is the after picture. Not for the weak stomach. :eek2:

Dano, so other than some scars, is there any possibility of lingering issues? Or do they expect a full recovery?

Dan, has the doctor here been able to repair the job that was done in mexico? Get yourself healed up so we can make another trip.

Those mountain roads are no joke... ask me how I know.

Sorry about the get off and the shoddy surgery. Makes you appreciate the quality of care and level of expertise we have here in the U.S. doesnt it?

Imagine the life long strife many Mexicans have after being injured at work, home or in an auto accident that do not get the proper care to be fully rehabilitated.

I am curious... what did the medical bills in Mexico set you back?
