Just got home after seeing the results of this accident http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa/latestnews/stories/wfaa071029_mo_hitandrun.1bbf146a2.html personally. I was driving home with my 2 year old on Columbia and was diverted around the accident. The diversion took me back to Columbia with a perfect view of the dead motorcyclist laying in the road. He was quite some distance from his totally wrecked bike. Made me want to cry.
I must say that I am more than a little freaked. I have a trip planned to Arkansas for the weekend and all I can think of is my daughter and the dead guy in the road.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

RIP to the rider and I hope the driver of the S-10 gets what he deserves.

It is a tragedy for the rider and his loved ones. May the God of all piece comfort them.
It makes me proud to be a Texan, knowing there are still some great folks such as those who held that bum who killed the motorcyclist.

Enjoy your trip. I'd have to give up driving and walking across the street if I gave up every dangerous thing that resulted in death. Even golf can be dangerous.

Under the jail please. Time to make an example of somebody. Prayers for the rider and family.

True enough. This time I actually saw the body in the road. He was just a few lanes from me and even though his head and torso was covered with a sheet, I could see his legs and feet. I have never seen a dead body in an accident and my first time had to be a motorcyclist.
It is good to know that people followed the truck. Gives me some faith in humanity. I am not sure I would have had the restraint that they obviously did.

What a dirtbag....hope he gets the max.
Don't let these thoughts affect your Arkansas trip, just be safe and come home to your family relaxed.

What a tragedy. Glad they were able to catch the driver. They should have beat the crap out of him. Sadly, that would be the only justice he'll get.
Maybe 10 yrs in the pen? At a cost of close to a million to get that?
What a waste... .20 bullet to the head is more cost effective.
Poor cyclist was doing everything right - helmet, working, going home to 2 kids and he dies at the hands of some drunk p.o.s. :angryfire

from the DMN article:
"Witnesses told police a Chevrolet pickup heading west on Columbia Avenue about 4:40 p.m. was turning left onto Munger Boulevard when it struck Mr. Trevino's eastbound motorcycle, knocking him to the ground.
The truck dragged Mr. Trevino, who was wearing a helmet, and drove over him repeatedly before racing away, police and witnesses said. Police believe the initial impact alone probably would not have killed Mr. Trevino.
"If the ... [pickup driver] just stopped, he probably would have been OK," Sgt. Harris said.
Valerie Hernandez, 24, was stopped at a red light on Munger Boulevard when the accident occurred in front of her.
"He's under the truck! They're running him over!" Ms. Hernandez said she shouted to her sister, who was in her car with her. Ms. Hernandez said she saw Mr. Trevino attempt to get back up as the truck drove over him repeatedly."
That's not manslaughter - that's murder. I hope the charges are upgraded.

3 hispanics in a small single cab truck being drunk? never.....
hate to be the stereotyper here, but that right there is what you'd have to expect from someone like that. Stop at the gas station, buy about 6 tallboys between the 3 of you and drink on the way home. I see it all the time. ****, there's plenty of times I see someone doing a quick chug of beer or liquor on 35/loop 12. just a matter of time till they run a sign and run over someone, and this happened to be that time. this kind of stuff just pisses me off.

Unfortunately, I agree with CrashOverride. It's scary out there and they don't even have to be drunk. I need a turret on my bike or car to take them out if they get out of hand. Dallas roads and the drivers on them are insane!!
I am going to Arkansas anyway. Screw them all! I need a break.
Thanks for the input. I am over being sad, now I'm just pissed. Would love to be able to do something about it. :biggun:

This is why we post these threads: to remember that it's dangerous out there.
Keep your eyes open and your focus sharp. Ride safe.

Got back Saturday from my trip to Arkansas. The weather was a little on the cold side but wow, it was beautiful!! What fantastic colors. It was a short trip but good for the soul.
Funny thing, on the way up in some small town, some dingbat turned left right in front of me, as I was accelerating. Amazing that I was able to stop. My only point is that we always have to be hyper-vigilant.
I appreciate the encouragement from the forum. It really did help me decide to just go. Thanks.

The dips are everywhere. We were on our way to the store yesterday in our neighborhood, and a pickup (dually) backed straight out of a drive right into middle of street blocking the whole thing (one drive on both sides and the pickups siting in the street on each side). Glad I wasn't accelerating on m/c as I would have been all over him. In the car with high beams and horn and he just sat there and wanted me to move to let him get out of two driveways. Man the idiotas are everywhere!
Defensive driving is the only way. They are out there and know not what they do.
I followed that wreck (manslaughter/murder) in DFW and the driver should get Manslaughter Max.

This is different from three white guys in a small single cab truck (which means what, exactly?), or three black guys, or three Asians, how?
hate to be the stereotyper here, but that right there is what you'd have to expect from someone like that.Someone like WHAT?
Evidently the rider was Hispanic, too. As were the witnesses. Are we supposed to draw some conclusions from that, too?
This type of thinking stuns me.
OK, bring on the flames.
