Last weekend I finished the instalaltion of the Stebel horn on my bike. I had this horn on my cruiser and liked it so much it was one of a couple of things I took out of the VTX before I traded it in for the Wee.
When at the last mini tech day, I didn't have time to install it, but at least we found a good place to install it, right on the SW-Motech engine guards. I took the guard off and with Bill's help we drilled a hole on the guard to bolt the horn to. That was the same day a couple of people almost had a heart attack when someone decided to try it to see how loud it was...

Now came the electrical part. I had already run the power wires to it at the tech day, so the only thing I had to do was to tap into the horn leads to trigger the relay to the horn (a relay on this thing is a must, if you don't use it you will eventually fry your horn button). I wanted to keep the stock horn wired in, since the air horns are a little more sensitive to dirt and water especially if you don't follow the instructions and don't install them vertically...(DAMHIK).
The stock horn on my Wee is behind the radiator, on the left side. The location may vary, as we found on Squeaky's bike, where her's was on the right side.
I made up a couple of "Y" cables, one for each horn lead. I put a female spade connector on two ends of the "Y", and a male on the other end. One end plugs into one of the horn leads, the male one goes to the stock connector, and the last one connects to another wire that goes to the relay. I could have made one leg of the "Y" longer and had it plug directly into the relay, but I chose to break it with a pair of spade connectors.
The place where the stock horn is is quite small and congested, so I'm afraid this is the best picture I could take of the horn with the "Y" cables connected to it.

Once I had that part done, the rest was quite easy. Just make two extra wires to go from the "Y" to the relay (trigger side), plug in the ground lead to the horn and the hot wire to the relay, and the last wire from the relay to the horn. Then mounted the horn with a 5mm bolt and a tension nut, and voi-la!

Despite it being mounted on the engine guards, they are not very conspicuous...unless I push that button!

Good job - one of the best safety mods you can do. :thumb:

Thanks Ana. Stebel horns work. I had one on my VTX and it may a big difference in making a presence around cages. The one I had sounded like an old Buick horn. Very loud. A real head turner.

I am pondering upgrading to a higher output stator on the KLR just so I can hang a few accessories on it including a Stebel.

I know you'll feel safer with this horn.
