If there was a forum for vendor reviews I'd put this there, but if there's such a forum, I've overlooked it. So it's here.
Do NOT order from Ridegear.
On October 31, I ordered a tire patch kit to replace one that a kindly TWT'er gutted to get me back on the road and home. On November 1, my card was charged and my order was acknowledged. Two weeks later -- I should have figured it out from the two-week delay -- I got a "thank you" from a Giovanni Windrose at RideGear. We corresponded a bit and he said my order would be shipped soon.
Today is December 4 and Giovanni is no longer responding to my emails. He also has not credited my card.
It's not a big ticket item so it's probably not worth a huge fuss. But folks at service-oriented companyies, companies like NewEnough.com, never charge your card until the order is shipped. RideGear, by comparison, takes your money and sits on it.
At least they have Giovanni send a thank you note.
I repeat -- do NOT buy from RideGear.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience Bill. I trust no more than a hand full of vendors - newenough.com is at the top of my good list by the way and they continue to add more goods. Still irks me to pay Texas sales tax - guess we can't have everything though.
What type of kit was it? I have about $10 in mine right from the shelf at Walmart. Just a reamer, a plug tool and some tar ropes. I added some rubber cement for good measure.

Me too, but I've given up on carrying rubber cement on the bike. Every time I've tried to use it, I found that a hole had worn through the tube, allowing the glue to leak/evaporate. Maybe if it was wrapped in a rag, it would last longer. I do keep a tube on the shelf in my garage.
I agree that a good retailer does not charge you until the the item is shipped. I've bought all kinds of things on the internet and had good experiences 99% of the time.

New Enough is a good vendor, I like dealing with them as well, As a Texas
company I believe that they are by law required to collect sales tax to shipping addresses in the state. I dont think that there is any way
around that for them.
Of course you could always ship it to someone out of state and have
them ship it to you, but the extra UPS will probably cost more than the
tax.

To the point of the original post, I'm dealing with the same thing. I ordered two items during a "20% off sale" back on November 4th. They shipped one of the two almost immediately (2-3 days). They sent a shipping confirmation with a tracking number (the wrong tracking number) on the same day I actually got the package. They shipped by DHL, but sent a UPS tracking number. I then emailed to inquire about the mix up with the tracking number and the status of my other item and got a relatively prompt response saying:
"The tracking number we provided you with was a UPS number that came from a different warehouse that is why the email arrived late and the shipper was incorrect. We are still awaiting the Fox item it should be ready to ship in a week or so. I have upgraded you to a free 2 day shipping so that it can arrive faster."
That email was more than 3 weeks ago. I emailed again on Nov. 30, but got no response. They did, of course, charge my credit card for the full order immediately.
It seems they are perfectly willing to sell items they don't have and aren't even sure they can get. I understand some back order / drop ship problems, but these guys seem to push that too far.
Whether they are nefarious or simply incompetent, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone either.

I don't think anyone is blaming New Enough for collecting sales tax. We just wish they were about three feet on the other side of the Oklahoma or New Mexico border.:rider:

Gosh no, I wasn't blaming them at all. I was thinking more along the lines of wishing they were in Shreveport, LA. :trust: but Oklahoma or New Mexico would work also!

As for the sales tax thing, I too have done business with New Enough and and have been treated fairly. Even when I ordered the wrong size gloves, they shipped out the right size the same day without waiting until they got the wrong ones back.
I've also had really good service from Moto Liberty in Dallas. I rode there and bought a jacket that was not in stock and they ate the shipping. When it arrived, I didn't like it and not only did they take it back no questions asked, they also ate the shipping on the Olympia jacket I shoulda' bought in the first place.
A few weeks ago I sent them an email just to inquire about the Dakar pants but didn't get a response right away. I got impatient and found the pants online with free shipping and no sales tax (out of state) and was just about to go to the checkout screen when I get this call from Kayla at Moto Liberty, "Your Dakar's are in!" I didn't even ask them to order the pants and when I confessed what I was about to do, they agreed to eat the shipping AND back out the sales tax! Sweet!:thumb:

Just wanted to bump up this thread, because I wish I'd seen it two weeks ago when I made the mistake of ordering from Ridegear.
Order placed May 12th, no responses to two emails regarding the order-- they do not answer their phone-- just a message saying that all operators are busy then disconnect.
At least they haven't charged me for the new gloves- really good price though (if I ever get them).
+1 on kudos for New Enough-- everything I've ordered from them has showed up on my doorstep the next day w/ standard shipping- totally worth the sales tax.

John and I ordered a brake light switch from Ridegear (it was on sale and they were having a free shipping promo) to get Daisy back on the road. Man it was an ordeal with them. I ordered it on 4/20, they charged me for it on 4/24 and we didn't even receive it for another TWO weeks even though it was in stock and it said it leaves the warehouse a day after you order.
You're "supposed" to get an e-mail letting you know it's shipped...I never got one, but when I contacted them via e-mail to see what was up, they FINALLY got me a shipping notice e-mail..........the day it arrived :argh:
I will not be ordering from them again.

I went through the same experience with Ride Gear! In the beginning of December I ordered some riding gloves which were supposed to be in stock. Two weeks passed and I still had not get my email saying the item has shipped. I sent an email to them inquiring on their shipping delay and only got an automated response. More than a month after I placed the order, I got an email saying the item was out of stock and that I will be awarded a 20% extra in addition to what I was charged to use on anything from their catalog. I called them, I gave them 5 or 6 different glove options and none of them were available in any color in my size. After several calls trying to resolve this with no luck. I told the guy that since I couldn't get I what I need, I wanted a full refund. Guy says "no problem, we'll issue a full refund to your card". It's end of may and I'm still waiting for it....Good thing they were not very expensive gloves....

Wow, guess I'm the lucky one here. I've ordered several items from Ridegear and have always gotten them as promised.
As for New Enough, they are by far the best vendor I have ever done business with. New enough is always the first place I shop before anyone else.

Never had a problem with them but then again, no items that I've purchased have been placed on back order.
+10 on newenough. I gladly pay the tax with their service.
