So I am having trouble trying to even find mapsource so I can create my own routes. Was my unit supposed to come with a software CD or something? Do I have to purchase mapsource for $119 off the website?? If so, forget that, I will stick with my trusty TOM TOM one.

I have registered my product, and have an unlock code. I tried to download a mapsource update called MapSource_6136. It said I must have a previous version for this to work.

Someone help me out here.

As I remember, the C550 doesn't come with Mapsource. It is preloaded maps and they don't expect you to do any off device route planning. You can talk them into a copy of mapsource for free, but to get maps (ie City Navigator) the are probably going to want money. However, I've seen posts on the POI-Factory were people have called and talked them into all the software. Worth the time on hold if you can convince them.

OK, thats what I needed to know. Well that really sucks. I received this unit as a gift and just thought I would give it a try on the bike because of the MP3 capabilities.

I have a Tom Tom one version 2 that works very well, looks like it will stay on the bike for now.

Well, google is my friend. I found a "legal" way to get mapsource. By downloading the garmin training center and installing it, the mapsource update thinks you have an older version of mapsource installed. It then allows you to finish installation of the new version and I am up and running. Now to figure out how to use the program.
