Just when you thought there was a web site for ever cause under the sun...up pops http://www.nelsap.org/. It is an online project to try to document all the out of business ski resorts in the United States. And yes...there use to be ski resort near Kabul (http://www.nelsap.org/afghan.html) Soviet pre-invasion of 1979!
Anyway, last summer on my Strom 650, I rode one of the sites listed at Cuchara Valley in southern Colorado. The road to the summit was a perfect challenge for the rather heavy DL but the ride was fun and the view was even better.

Next time your DS travels take you near one of these former relics of the skiing past, you might consider riding up the trails or least hike it :)
