Nope, needs fork seals, rear caliper is froze up and it someone hit me on it it can't be replaced so it just sits these days. It has 42k on it, never had anything but a clutch and some oil changes. With a new battery it would crank right now. Carbs have been drained for storage.

Purchased the Super Duke at Wild West Honda. I think they are the only ones that have the street KTM's in Houston. I enjoy the bike but it does not match the hp of the Kawasaki. The best thing about the KTM is that it's super comfortable and I can ride it all day long. The KTM get's smoother as you crank up the RPM's. I enjoy all types of bikes as you can see.

Why did you sell the Ducati?

SouthernXer
02-18-2008, 12:33 PM
I wasn't really tracking it enough and my wife mentioned that she really wanted to get into trail/dirt riding. So I took off all the extras on the Duc (~$3000 worth) and traded it in on a 2007 WR450F and 2007 TTR125L. The dealer paid my bike off and then gave me the two dirtbikes for free. After all said and done I got about $18k for the Duc. I still need to sell the extras now. :-P

I never realized bandits were so popular. I've never been fond of the styling cues or engine sound myself. I really like the Kawasaki 650r though, and wish I could squeeze one in as a commuter bike.

Cruizer, how do you like the Corbin?????? I've about given up on the stocker

etcthorne...the Corbin is currently back at the factory having some re-contouring done to it. There was a clearance issue with the Suzuki top case mount...couldn't fit the seat on with the mount. Also the seat caused me to slide forward out of the pocket into the tank which was uncomfortable and awkward feeling, pretty much the same issue I have with the stock seat.

The quality is very good, (this is my 3rd Corbin) and my wife is giving the thumps up for the passenger. I also got the back rest for those day rides when I don't need the top case.

They are going to trim the back to clear the rack and deepen the pocket a little and add some material to the front to eliminate the sliding forward. I hope to get it back next week...I'll post to the forum when I get a day or so in the saddle.

So far they have been very willing to work with me.

FYI...I found that you can raise the front of the stock seat without raising the rear which helps with sliding forward some.

latest Feb '08 issue of CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS, has an article on a bike similar to this 1961 Suzuki Colleda Seltwin. it does give me credit for helping with providing parts for its restoration, but mispelled my last name and misquoted me as a nascar engine builder, when i build engines for ALMS, not nascar. i was glad to find a home for some leftover parts, after building mine.

My guess is the tail will be cropped soon, So the M109 was not a good thing? I had the 06 C90t and it was an extreme pile of poor handling, huge fake tank dog. FI problems, elec. etc. but im still a SUZUKI loyal even after that miscarry of a bike. ditto on "NO more cruisers"

You got it bud... fender eliminator... then wheel color change, tune, brake lines and possibly a really nice 1/4 fairing. Waiting on the matched Suzuki wheel hugger order to arrive.
The M109r was OK (except for hair-trigger throttle), but I had to get rid of it after 3 weeks because my back/siatic couldn't take the foot-forward/seating positions. Wanted to try a cruiser... big, costly mistake. Actually the Bandit was bike I test-drove same day, so it was no-brainer what to trade the M109 on later.

Here are some pic's of my Bandit.

Assuming your seat is a Corbin Gunfighter & Lady, how much better is it than the OEM piece? Meaning, in what ways is it really significantly better? Been considering one so appreciate any feedback.

TIA,
David

Shock is an Ohlins with remote reservoir and remote preload. Reason for changing is because it is mo-betta. Honestly. the motor is a gem and I want the suspension to match the motor.

Eyabusa:

What did it cost, where did you get it, and did you install it yourself? If so, can you comment and/or shoot a picture? What are you experiencing now that you didn't before? It's been a while since I owned my last bike so I'm not sure what I should be feeling in a rear shock.

Thanks - sorry for the rambling questions.

The mirrors you have mounted, they look like they are from a V-Strom. How is the visibility/vibration compared to stock and where did you find the block off plates to cover the stock mounts.

Eyabusa
04-21-2008, 09:06 AM
Mirrors are from a ZRX1200. Mounting brackets from a naked Bandit 1200. I fabricated the mirror block-off plates from 1/4 inch aluminum. No vibrations, view better than stock. I have some naked mirror extensions coming from Europe for an even better view.

Your country sides are beautiful, We dont have any castles, Here in central Texas we have the hill country, Great roads for motorscooting, lots of curves with downs and up,s and lots of deer which can be dangerous, The lakes here have white rock beds or limestone which gives the water a pretty aqua color..Your pictures remind me of the country sides in the movie The Great Escape with Steve Mcqueen when he is running from the germans on the bike, Very nice.

Your spelling is better than mine, I think your saying you remove the one case so a car going in the opposite direction doesnt hit it and remove it for you.??

Hi sz rider.
Thank you to me for the message.
As for the facing traffic road in Japan, outstripping is almost prohibited.
In that case, Center Line becomes a display of yellow.
The left side of the car is passed when advancing in congestion with the motorcycle.

Hi, Toro Guy
Hi, SZ Rider

I see that the average age has fans in Texas.

In Europe, everything is smaller. The distances from one country to another are shorter.
Switzerland is 120 km and Germany is 200 km away from my home .

I do not know Texas, but I rode from Boston to Santa Fe in 1981.

The spectacle of nature was fantastic throughout this trip (Great Canyon of Colorado, Monument Valley, Lake Powell and many other places)

My DR650 is my round town and country bike. :rider:
The corbin is sooooooo much better than the stock seat. Besides, I was able to pick up the seat and tank in a package deal for 240 bucks. You have to have the right Corbin for the right tank. 1 for stock and 1 for Plastic tanks.
The old JC whitney tail box comes off my KLR I had for 9 years. Good for trips to the store, carrying stuff about while exploring. My jumping, wheelstanding, but mud days are long since gone. :lol2: More of a flower smelling pace now. :trust:

That's 'Tech Spec' stuff made locally. They claim that the adhesive used on the back of the stuff is reusable if taken off with care and the surface was prepared correctly (cleaned with something like brake cleaner). They have at least two patterns, maybe three.... used much like the 'Gripster' stuff is used on track bikes (with which to grip the gas tank with your knees); I'm using it simply to protect my paint.

They have precut sections for specific bikes, but they had nothing for the Bandit (or similar FZ1). I bought the universal kit, created my own pattern, and applied it..... looks pretty good, and hasn't lifted from the tank.

Thanks 'sands,

In the dark and dreary months of Winter, I went crazy with the "red on black" theme. I put red pinstripes on my wheels, reflector red under the end plates of the radiator, and the same reflective red in the cut-outs of the chain guard.

One clear cold morning when I stopped at a mom-&-pop's breakfast nook, I looked back at my bike in the bright sunlight and discovered that it looked more akin to a carnival ride than a motorcycle.... I took some of the red trim off before I rode it back home.

A little is good, but.....

That's a "MIVV X-Cone" muffler & mid-pipe.

It has a DB killer in place that can be drilled out & removed.... then you have a 2 1/2" big mouth exhaust port to flow your exhaust. I like it!

I got that comment from my grand daughter when I left on my DL1000 and came back with the '07 Bandit. Plus, " It's much smaller. Is that red bike as fast as the silver one you just traded?". I told her " Yes, it's smaller looking and it should be faster than the Storm. " ;-) But, what does she know, she still wishes I had my R1150GSa to give her rides on. :lol2:

And, not that they are that much different (1000 or 650), that is a 650 Vstrom.
When I get off the Vstrom and ride the Bandit, the Bandit feels very 250ish, in a TZ kinda way. The Bandit just lacks the "Flickability" of the lighter Vstrom.
Keep thinkin I might get rid of one, but I can't bring myself to part with either one of them!! or the DRZ...

Achesley, how many miles did you put on your vstrom ?

I did 18113 miles in 16 months. Got rid of it due to an engine studder at 2900 rpm I could never get out of it. Putting on fuel management on dampen it. Course I was told to slip the clutch and keep it above 4000 rpm but tight curves in slippery places make this too hairy for me. I needed lugging power to control the rear at places like this. The Bandit does that in spades. So I traded it off on the Bandit in a fit of Anger one day.

Joe,
I've often wondered how much heat your would feel out of those side mount radiators on a really hot day through the desert. Heck, the bandit puts out some good heat down here in the Summer. You can sure feel it on your legs when the thermo opens up. ;-)

yep.
I fell into the dark side, and changed ship.

I just got thru putting the stock muffler back on, the aftermarket 2 bros pipes were just too loud for me, even with the tips in.
getting old I guess.

I'll keep you guys posted now and then about stuff, and offer some comparisons, and try and keep in touch.
