From the Cedar Park Police Department:

On Feb. 21st at approximately 8:17p.m., the Cedar Park Police Department responded to a fatality accident in the 1300 block of West Park.

Preliminary investigation indicates that two motorcycles were traveling east on West Park.

As one of the motorcycles was slowing down to make a left turn onto Settlers Drive, it was struck from the rear by the second motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, the four occupants were ejected onto the roadway. The driver of the second motorcycle, Dennis Tramblie, 38, of Lakeway, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Anna Villarreal of Austin, was transported to Brackenridge Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other two occupants of the first motorcycle were treated and released at the scene. None of the occupants were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. It is believed that both alcohol and unsafe speed were contributing factors in the collision.

This case is still pending investigation. This is Cedar Park’s second fatality accident of 2008.

Never like to see headlines like these, that being said, this accident was totally preventable.
Dont drink and ride. Simple.
ATGATT, or at least some gear, some of the time.
...and NO, wearing one of those dopey doo-rags does not a good helmet substitute make.

This was less than a mile from my house. The speed limit on West Park is 30mph... how fast was this guy going?

I never heard. I can check to see if the report has been entered. It doesn't take much speed at all to cause grave injury, depending on what hits where.

But Park street has pretty good visibility and things don't happen real fast... I can easily see someone crashing at 30mph and getting killed, my point is that it seems strange to rear end another bike on that slow of a road.

A lot of people drive 40 or more on park, but it's also heavily patrolled.
