My hubby, SabreScott, is contemplating buying a new saddle for his Sabre 1100. Reading reviews and sales blurbs is fine, but talking with those who have experience with custom seats is even more valuable. Assuming you purchased a custom saddle, please tell me why you chose the saddle you did.

Thanks!

Never had a mustang, but I have had Corbins on my ZRX and Bandit. Terribly expensive, poor customer service and worth every penny. Corbin is an aquired taste as the foam is hard and the seat somewhat dished (butt shaped).

Best seat I ever had is the one I have now - a classic explorer from Saddlemen (part of Travelcade). It has the integrated gel seat and I can ride for well over 500 miles a day and get off with no pain and no undue soreness. Also great customer service - very friendly - and the prices aren't too bad either.

Here's their metric cruiser page:

And txmedic is right - I know some folks who love the Corbins and others that hate 'em, so it is an acquired taste.

we have a mustang on the volusia. it is much better for us than the stock seat. can't say anything about the corbin because i've never had the opportunity to ride a bike with one on it.

On my third Corbin on as many bikes. Super comfortable, very well made and look better than stock. They take a few thousand miles to break in properly and form to your shape, but when they do, they are awesome. Have done week-long trips, 500 mile days on them, easy. The one on my Speed Triple is about seven years old and is without a doubt the most comfortable seat I've ever had. I've had great customer service over the years. They're the only aftermarket seats I've ever had so I can't compare them to Mustang or others.

I haven't owned a mustang, but I do know all the folks I've seen in the harley groups that have had had both say the mustang is a more comfy ride on their harleys.

I went with a Diamond Custom Seat this last time. I wanted long distance comfort with built in backrest. I thought about the Russell Day-Long, but it was a lot more expensive than the Diamond. They built it to my dimensions (a 'bit' odd) and specifications for about $500 total. :-D
I've owned two Corbins and hated each. I don't like the way the Mustang fits me (again, I have odd dimensions) so full custom was the only way to go.http://www.diamondseats.com/

I never did the accessory seat thing. I found the stock seats uncomfortable early on, and it was hard to go 100 miles. After a few thousand miles, all was well enough to do 1000+ mile days.

I have seen what others have gone through with the manufacturers. Corbin has much better service than Mustang. But that doesn't say much. Try to find someone with a custom 1100 Sabre seat that you could try. I have seen a custom seat that was less comfortable than the seat it replaced.

This is the seat I have on my Speed Triple. Most comfortable seat I've ever had.

I still uase the stock seat on my harley, but I went with a corbin on my yamaha. The corbin is hard, even after 2500 miles, but it's wider and shaped better and more comfortable for me.

I thought about a mustang for my harley, but I did a 3700 miler this summer in 9 days on the stock seat and was ready for more when I got home so I changed my mind about a mustang.

I did a 700 mile day on a Corbin without any issues. Enough said.....

Corbins can be had for about 1/2 price on e-bay. You just need to be patient. I've bought two that way (one for each of my bandits).
