Just installed the standard stick on under the grips style (wrapped them in electrical tape since they would not stick on the cold bars (still only 30 degrees here) and fired up the bike and all was good. On high the right hand got REAL hot after a few minutes, the passenger was not so hot...warm, but not hot. Bare hands, no gloves on at idle. I didn't go for a ride, too busy finishing up misc. mods/maint. before going to Oklahoma this weekend. This something I should be concerned about?

I used a eastern beaver relay/fuse kit and have good grounds, etc. Radar, GPS, 12V plug and digital volt meter all worked fine. Volt meter was at 13.7/8 at idle with everything on, heaters on high. Heaters off, it went to 14, so it was not as drastic as I have read. Granted I am used to a KLR and the weak stator output, so I never bothered added acc. to it.

FWIW this is on my 07 Bandit. TIA

What brand grips did you use? I am familiar with Symtek which has different resistances for the throttle and clutch sides. One thing I use is some 1" heat shrink tubing over the clutch side to insulate the grip from the bare bar (thanks to Paul - "st driver" on here for the tip).

Yeah the bar will suck some heat from the heater making it feel not as warm as the throttle side. You could probably use electrical tape as well.

Yep, you need to insulate under the wrap on that side, on the throttle
the throttle tube does that for you. Dual Star offers a tube as an
option with their kit. Mine are the same temp on each side and get
warm enough to make it hard to use them on high unless its colder
that 50 or so with gloves on

Another thought is maybe one grip is designed to be hotter to compensate for the thicker grip on the clutch side (In order for the two grips to be the same size in the palm of your hand the throttle side is thinner walled because of the throttle tube). Maybe you have them reversed and need to put the hot one on the clutch side. It might also just take longer for the heat to get through the thicker left grip and if you were to go for a longer ride you would find they even out.

+1. That's what I did and my clutch side heats up faster than the throttle side... stays warmer too. Not a big difference, but it's noticeable.

If you can get the grips off w/o destroying them, go get some 1" heat shrink...

Crap. wish I had know that before the install. Oh well. They worked coming into work today, 32 degrees. High is WAY too hot. Low was okay. I think if I had hand guards they'd work better. I can see why heated gloves and grip heaters with adjustment would be fantastic. I think low might even be to hot. Probably just be switching them on and off as needed. We'll see more tomorrow night.

Oh mine were in a KTM package, but the same at the Dual Stars other than the tubing for the left side.

Thanks
