Howdy!

So somebody remind me, is that the same bike the "Rockster" is based on?

Yep. A friend of myself and StoneTriple has a Rockster. Very stealthy except for the loud exhaust.

I haven't seen one up close, but nothing about the Rockster ever struck me as "stealthy."

Well here's Rita in her final state. :tears:

The photo doesn't do justice to the damage. I am really broke up about this bike in particular. It was the first new bike I ever bought. I was on the way to having a long and happy relationship with this one. She did admirably on the ButtBurner. She did a few Fort Worth trips well. She was a joy to ride in the rain.

I will miss her.

May the good parts on her keep another R1150R on the road. :chug:

In the other thread, you mention that the bike is totaled. My suggestion is to have some folks look at it and make sure.

I say this because my son wrecked his GSXR600 in January. The Suzuki shop gave us an estimate of $11000 to fix it - $3000 more than he paid for the bike! Several folks recommended a second opinion - both on this forum and a Kawasaki forum that I was on. My son was very upset about the bike but we waited a couple of days, asked questions, and then decided that we would make it a project and fix it. We took the parts list from the estimate & started going through it & looking on ebay and OEM parts sites.

To make a long story short, the bike is back running, looks good except for a few "character" scratches, and probably for less than $2500. The big ticket was taking it to straighten the frame (first suggested by Judd[Kidder] on here and reinforced on gixxer.com) at GMD Computrack (see my post in the dealers section). They work miracles with frames.

It was my mistake that he didn't have full insurance coverage, being that it was financed. One of the bikes DID but the wrong one. Maybe your insurance is OK, but you might consider buying the hulk back and building her back up.

Just my thoughts. Planning and ording parts can be a good thing while you recover and have something to look forward to - getting your ride up and running again.

Heal quickly - very glad you are still kickin'...

First off, my future employer and the service manager looked at the bike and said it's for the chop. What is hard to see in the picture is the right cylinder is pushed back farther than it should be. The front telelever is also bent. This was not an easy get off. The insurance company stopped at $8000 worth of parts and that isn't including any kind of labor. Crash books tend to be priced a little low. I would rather have a machine that is going to take the repair well than one that will have re-occuring problems. The main thing is I'm feeling better daily. Today, the ribs don't hurt as bad. :-D

Oh yeah, I forgot that you will be working for BMW. Well, I just wanted to make sure you looked at all the options. Hopefully, that new employer can cut you a deal and help you out...

Glad to hear about the ribs - take it easy on 'em...

:tab So are you parting it out or is the insurance company sending it off to the graveyard? I wonder if your rims would fit a GS...?

:tab I remember hearing that my first bike had been wrecked. I loved that bike. The new owner had it only about three weeks before sending it sliding down the freeway at 70mph... :tears: Broke my heart. I feel your pain...

Adios,

The rims would probably fit but they are 17" instead of 18"/19".

Hey, that's a way to turn your bike into a SuperMotard!

With large aluminum cases and giant lights.

My front is a 19, the rear is a 17. Are they spoked or alloys?

Adios,

Alloys. They had Metzeler MEZ4s on them. They held up well for over 5000 miles. :bigokay:
