I could use some help from our East Texas folks. I am not familiar with this place, so if any information is wrong, please advise...
Also, this one is also at 1:00 PM since it is pretty from most of the "triangle". However, it could be changed back to 11:00 AM if enough people think that is OK.
Unfortunately, I'll miss this one (and break my streak) due to a conflict with a once-a-year Quarter Century Club outting... :-(

Thinking about it. I've never done a long ride like this (about 500 miles round trip). Not sure I have that kind of riding endurance yet.....possibly if the journey is interesting. Coming from DFW, does anyone know how interesting the ride would be? I understand that the ride is more about the journey than the destination. In this case does the destination trump the journey? Do you guys and gals superslab it to make better time or do back roads to make it more interesting (but taking longer).

I usually take nice back roads to the restaurant, then slab it back home.

Hi Barry. I figure more like 350-400 miles RT from Garland. Slab from my house to Marshall is 177 miles - should be less from Garland - probably 150. So there should be plenty of room to add the back roads in.
The East Texas guys can probably recommend some routes north of US80 and south of I20...
I have googled a route, that must mean something

Chuck,
Did Chris forward the info on the Creamery that I sent him? Pics, confirmed address, etc.? If not, just holler if you want/need them.
Also, I promised the owner someone would contact him with an approximate head count so they could be ready, but that was before the Pie Baton was passed, so I just wanted to make sure that was still in the plans. If I can assist in any way please don't hesitate. I'll keep an eye on this thread in case.
The Creamery is in it's second location. Numerous internet searches will still return the original address, so everyone please use the 409 E. Grand Ave. address when Googling or setting your GPS routes. FYI, Grand Ave. is Hwy. 80 in Marshall.

No - I didn't get the data - so this is an official holler.
I plan to call them about a week before once we get a stable head count.
I may try email as well...

Chuck,
Send me your email addy and/or contact info to dmccorkl@yahoo.com and I'll forward all the stuff I sent Chris. There are a number of pics so please advise if an attachment size limit is involved.
P.S. to all: When I was there I tried the Chicken Fried Steak and found it on par with Grandy's. The burgers were all the rave by regulars and first-timers alike, however. I also tried the FRESH COOKED crawfish and it was very good while not so spicy as to cover the flavor. Those who lean towards "the hotter the better" school of thought may find these on the tame side.
The pies (except sugar free) are made on site. They also buy the sugar free cheesecake. The day I was there they had Apple Dumplings, too. They have 15 or 16 flavors of Blue Bell.
For those going East to Marshall (from the MetroMess) 514 across the north end of Lake Fork to Yantis is a good ride, then drop south to 515 into Coke. If you're planning south of that route, 779 from just south of Emory to just north of Mineola is a favorite sweeper road. You could then catch Hwy. 80 in Mineola for the run into Marshall. (If you get to Mineola in time, the East Texas Hamburger Company has fresh homemade fried pies on Saturday mornings. You'll pass it on the right as you take Hwy. 69 south from 779 to Hwy. 80).
Looking forward to it, hope to see and meet a bunch of you there.

Very good ride up there from my home. I usually run LA 191 up the East side of Toledo Bend then cut across the top and up thru Marshal on my way to either Western Arkansas or Oklahoma and beyond on my journeys in that direction.
If all looks okay and I get my DL1000 back together Friday I'll try to give it a shot if nothing comes up. About 250 one way if I remember right. Nice day ride.

Hmm, if there is parking for at least one Wing, and I don't show up, that opens up space for at least 3 Stroms, doesn't it? Now, let me go off and ponder a bit to determine if the good of the many (the Stroms) is greater than the good of the one (my waistline).

Hi....As a resident of Marshall for some 40years, I am familiar with all roads in the area. With Chuck's approval I am volunteering to meet folks who can arrive early and meet at McDonalds(US59/I-20) for a local ride(for kickstands up 11am). My plan is to head North thru the backcountry roads(about 37miles) to Jefferson. Stop in front of Annie Skinners, a popular biker meeting place, for an hour of tire-kicking, or time for those needing relief, a smoke, or wanting to browse around Historic Jefferson. Then (kickstands up 12:30pm) traveling more backroads South 20 miles to US59/US80...then US80 west a mile to first traffic light which is Alamo/Grand, for the 1pm Creamery meeting. Please send me a private message of any suggestions or questions. All roads paved and in good condition and I will be running at the speed limit.:rider:

Marshall Pie & Mena Camping : April 26th
We have been thinking of doing a short one night camping trip and we were also thinking of doing the TWTEX Pie run on Saturday so I thought we would combine the two. We will leave Plano and head to Marshall around 8AM on the 26th. We will shoot over to Mineola via 60 and have breakfast. Then we will shoot down 60 and get into Marshall around 12Pm. This way we can watch the riders show up for the Pie Run and get our piece of pie, before the madness begins. We should be able to hit the road around 1:30PM heading for Mena. It is 184 miles to the camp ground so we are looking at getting there around 5:30PM. Plenty of time to pitch a then and get dinner at the lodge.
Sunday we can get up eat breakfast, break camp and then ride the ridge and head home. Should be a great weekend.
We wanted to camp at Caddo or Lake o the pines but both wanted reservations for both Friday and Saturday nights. So Mena it is. Besides the riding is better up there for the ride home Sunday.

At the rate of price increases, by the time you have the vacation time you'll need to take out a loan for the gas!

"It Broke"
The service manager was unavailble when I called today. The guy that answered tells me that "It Broke" and they are replacing the entire driveline. (shaft, FD, ect..) I am not sure what piece and ECT... is, but I did hear "Warranty Repair for everything". That is what was most important to me. I have asked for the Service Manager to call me when he returns..;-)
"It Broke"
That guy must have learned about wrenching from the same place I did.

List updated with all the Johnnie-come-latelies and Janie-come-latelies.;-) and the hard-luck cancellers.
Weather looks good - the norther this evening pushed all the humidity toward the coast, so the invasion of Marshall is on!
