Howdy,
:tab We will be doing another rally in Kerrville at the end of April. We will once again be staying at the YO Resort hotel in Kerrville. We have nine additional rooms blocked at the YO. These are on a first come, first served basis. To get the group rate, you must let the YO know you are with the BMT rally group. You are free to stay anywhere else, but the pre-ride meeting will be at the YO in the morning at 8:30am in front of the lobby. This is where final registration and the handing out of maps and route sheets will take place. For all the nitty gritty details, please go here:

I really hope to make this one, but (again) we will have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks. I can personally vouch for the YO - nice sized rooms, clean, great lobby, and a pool and hot tub ;-).

Any one else interested in the upcoming April Rally? We had around 15-20 people last fall for the same event and had a great time (we'll except for my final drive going out on the GS... ) This is definitely prime riding time for the Hill Country!

I might be able to break away for a day ride out of Austin. Would try to hook up with you in Kerrville in the morning and then hump it back to AUS by the evening.

We had a few folks do that last time and it worked out well for them. You should be able to leave the area around Vanderpool no later than 4-5pm I think (barring another final drive failure :-P ) That is what set us back an hour or so last time.

I may want to go I have to sit down and clock out my off time this year, There's a NC FZ1 rally, and a late June KTM owners week in Wyoming I'm looking at now as well as Colorado, Arkansas and NC with TWT.
So many rides, so little time, and we now have a publishing deal to get new game boxes released nationwide in June....Deadlines and working weekends...

I'm in.
I'll probably trailer down Friday night and back Sunday night though. I figure I'll get there before midnight Friday, and back to Dallas about midnight Sunday night.
Looks like I'll squeeze in Big bend, Hill country, Wyoming, Colorado, North Carolina and one or two Arkansas rides this year.

:tab For anyone attending this event, if you plan to stay at the YO, you need to make reservations by March 29th to get the group rate. Afterwards, rooms are provided as available at the normal rates. Being that April is peak time for Kerrville, rooms go fast. The same is true for all the hotels in town.
Adios,

Actually, I know today. I'm in! I'll make reservations and pay the Tourmeister tomorrow when I get home. Rhonda is already making shopping plans, Leigh wants to know about the pool and hot tub.

Excellent! Have you decided which bike you will bring?
Not sure, maybe the RC If I don't get the GS up to snuff in time.
....I'm giving the GS a good 'once-over' after our off-road jaunt the other day.
Besides various things coming loose on the bike  , I blew the fork seals pretty good. I Didn't realize it 'til halfway home.
I promptly hopped on ADVrider and got some tips to redo 'em....looks fairly painless.
Tourmeister
03-28-2005, 03:46 PM
Blew the fork seals!??! How'd that happen?
Adios,
Texian
03-28-2005, 04:00 PM
My guess is they were just well worn to begin with. Who knows, there were a few good sized potholes and such out there, and I wasn't exactly steering away from 'em...In fact, I faintly remember steering towards a few (that looked like fun) :-?
I noticed some fluid on my visor during the latter part of the ride, and when I got on the freeway home It was evident that it wasn't rain.
I stopped and took a good look at the forks, and they were weeping excessivly around the seals. The fork fluid looked pretty bad as well.
By the time I got home, I had fluid all over me!

Hrm, I've been contemplating this for a month or so and still haven't decided if I'm in or not. Trying to save cash, but its sooo close and wouldn't be that much :D Anyone have an extra bed in the room? If so, let me know how much it is and I may be heading on down there. Also, whats the cutoff date for getting reservations in case I gotta get my own room? The 1st?
Thanks,

I was seriously considering doing the Hill Country Run in Luckenbach this weekend, but maybe I will do this instead.
I noticed the reserved rooms would be released today. If I decide to go and they still have rooms available would I be able to get the special rate even though the rooms have been released.

Bill, I'm not sure about it. However, when you call, tell them you are with the Backroad Motorcycle Tour group. If that doesn't ring a bell with them, tell them you are with the Two Wheeled Texans group. If all else fails, ask for Faye Faure (Fa-ray). She is the sales manager and is familiar with our group. Really, the biggest issue will be if they even have any rooms left in the entire hotel. There are several other events there the same weekend we will be there so their rooms are pretty much booked.

Fellows,
It's been a while since meeting any of you. Several things have gotten between me and bike riding recently, including a trip to Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The reason I did not sign up for BB or the Hill Country is that my brother is coming down from New York, where it was snowing this morning!, to spend a bike riding week in the Big Bend area with me. It'll be the first trip to BB for both of us.
We will be in Kerrville on Saturday evening. I ask "Where is your Sat. evening dinner and can we join you guys"??
We'll be at the motel 8 (super 8?).
btw is YO an abbreviation??

Y.O. Ranch Resort (http://www.yoresort.com/) is the name of the place, I beleive there is an actual Y.O. Ranch somewhere outside of Kerrville.
TM informed me the dinner Saturday was going to be at Mac & Ernies. I was told it was in Leakey, but this review lists someplace different, maybe they are the same thing. maybe TM will be along shortly to clarify.
Here is a review from the Austin Chronicle (http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Guides/HillCountry?Category=Food&SubCategory=Fine_Dining) :
Mac & Ernie's Roadside Eatery
Don't mistake this cafe tacked to the side of a convenience store for some toaster-oven concession stand. You will want to try the quail in ancho-honey basting sauce, or the gourmet cabrito burger, made from goatmeat raised exclusively by the owners. The beef burgers also come from homegrown cows, and the fresh produce is acquired locally. This is one of those precious Hill Country finds that you won't forget.
William's Creek Depot, 11999 Hwy. 470 W., Tarpley, 830/562-3250
That is all I know about the trip so far.

Steve,
:tab The super 8 is right across the street from the YO Resort Hotel. Mac & Ernies is on FM 470 in Tarpley, right where FM 462 intersects 470. There is a little General Store and Mac & Ernie's is in the parking lot. It looks like a bright yellow sno cone shack. We should be there sometime between 5-6pm.
:tab What time will you guys be getting into Kerrville? After dinner, everyone will be hanging out around the pool/hottub area visiting.

Maybe we will cross paths while on the road. I will be staying in Utopia but have no clue what route I will be taking. I'm kinda of a guest on this ride and will be staying at a private residence. I also won't be involved in the route planning.
If anyone is headed out from the Tyler area on Friday morning, we could hook it together for the ride down to Kerrville at least. I'd also be willing to drop south and then over that direction. I also will be headed back this way on Sunday, so I could even ride back with some of ya'll.
