View Full Version : Spring and Fall Arkansas Rallies May & Sept.

Howdy,
:tab We will be doing two rallies in Eureka Springs again this year. The first will be Memorial Day weekend and the second, Labor Day weekend. I have been in the area on both weekends and the fact that they are holiday weekends is NOT a problem for traffic. However, it does mean the hotels cost more... The trade off is that we get an extra day on the weekend so people only have to take one day off from work instead of two. We will be based at the Comfort Inn on Hwy 23/62 again. As always, riders are free to stay anywhere they like, but the pre-ride meeting will be at 8:30am each morning in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn.

Fall Rally in Eureka Springs (http://backroadmotorcycletours.com/05-EVENTS/ARK-090205/index.htm)
For those that might be interested in seeing some different roads, I will also be doing two tours in May and Oct. They will be based out of Mountain Home. For details on those, see the events page (http://backroadmotorcycletours.com/events.htm) on the BMT site.

Will anyone be there for a Saturay morning ride? I'm considering riding up after work Friday.

:tab Never know how many to expect until they actually show up  Either the Wing or the ZRX will do (assuming you can ride the ZRX 3-400 miles in a day up there). We will be doing a ride on both Saturday and Sunday. Most of us will be at the hotel Friday early evening.
:tab If anyone from the Houston area is interested in trailering up, let me know. I can get access to an F250 crew cab and 18 foot trailer. Otherwise, I will be riding up.

:tab If anyone wants to trailer up, please let me know. I can haul five bikes. Diesel is divided by the number of bikes on the trailer. We'd be leaving Huntsville 7:00am on Friday morning so you will need to have the bike here Thursday evening to be loaded on the trailer. If you plan to ride up with us as well, then you will need to be at our house by about 6:30am to get all your stuff loaded in the truck. We will only have room for two other adults in the truck.

What will be the last day before u let the rooms go (assuming u haven't filled them all). As usual, My group has dwindled down. The Comfort Inn is full and I didn't want to take any of your space until I was sure of the number. Last year the number got down to one - ME. We have reservations down the road at the Sherwood Court; so it's no problem.

Arkansas "Time Out" is only six months; so, it kept me from going on the Fall trip. I thought you would know all about that, since I believe I saw a pic of you proudly receiving aan official "Arkansas Driving Award" while approaching the OK border. The Cop has to write something extra on the ticket; and I had to put a note referring to it on my check. Maybe he felt sorry for me - Didn't want me wasting all my social security on Insurance premiums. They save the real heat for guys with scruffy looking beards.
I'll never get a final answer out of my group by the end of this month; so we'll just keep the rooms at the Sherwood Court. I know I'll be there unless the weather is really bad. I'm not going to follow Baileyrock on wet roads. He's insane.
Buy a copy of this months "Motorcycle Escape" mag. There's an article on Death Valley that will make you cry. I may be on a DS the next time you see me.

I read it . I read all your trip reports. I think you could get some of your stuff published if you would send it in to some mags. You will definately be getting my Rally fee as soon as I get a count on my group. Is one a group? Also, how many DS riders are signed up? I'm NOT following you down any dirt roads.
Check your e-mail. I have an electrical problem with the VFR. Let me know if you have a clue.

Have room.Where are we eating?
Tourmeister
05-05-2005, 12:34 PM
It's always about the food...
Friday night, folks generally get in at various times so they just eat where they please. Saturday, we will probably hit Sparky's just up the road from the hotel about a 1/4 mile or so. Sunday, perhaps the Bavarian Inn, awesome German food and good brews. Both of those places can handle good sized groups pretty well. Any of the other really good places are pretty small and can't take more than 5-6 at a time in a group. If anyone would like to split off from the group to try some other restaurants, I can make several good suggestions.
Adios,

I can't sign up or reserve a room yet, I had to cancel my CC's due to a $250 unauthorized charge last week. :(
If I get my new card Monday I'll see if I can still get a room. I'll definately be riding the FZ up, it's feeling a bit neglected lately.

Count me in on the trailering, Scott. Usually, I am not much on trailering, but have chatted with several folks who made the previous trips and say this is a great deal and the way to do it.
Probably not as exciting going up, but everyone agrees that they were glad they did it when riding back home on Monday. Guess it is kinda nice to have a big ole F250 surrounding you when the crazies are out and about on Memorial Day. Besides we can sleep on the way home...all except for Scott.

Howdy,
It appears there has been some confusion as to the nature of this rally. It is a paid event that requires you to register and sign a liability waiver. Here is the link to the page with all the info:

If you have any questions, please PM or email me. So far, this is the list of folks attending:

Well I finally got my new CC in the mail, but comfort inn was out of rooms. I found a room at Thurman's across the street.
I'll be riding the FZ up from Grapevine unless Scott has an awesome DS route to go on and I have a bike prepped.
I'll get payment away and bring paperwork with me.

Are u planning on the MO route to Noel on Saturday? Also, are you going to to send out a GPS file or just "wing it"?
Mr Ed
05-13-2005, 07:55 AM
I'll be cancelling a reservation today for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights May 27~29 at the Rodeway Inn Swiss Holiday directly across Hwy 62 from the Comfort Inn. It's a single-bed (queen, I think). If anyone's having trouble finding a room and wants to coordinate with me to grab it while it's available, send me a private message.

I may have two others with me. It depends on the weather. If it's good, we'll ride to Hot Springs Thursday nite and have a nice twisty ride to Eureka Springs on Friday. Since we will probably head for home Sunday, we might only get to ride Saturday. That's why I was hoping you had the MO route planned for that first day. Either way, we'll meet you in the parking lot (Signed Forms & $ in hand) Saturday AM I'll e-mail KB & see if he has changed his mind. :chug:

I've got a "jacuzzi suite" reserved at the Comfort in for 27-30. It's a bloody fortune at around $134 a night. I'm going to let it go next Tuesday unless someone wants it. I booked the Travelodge down the road 3/4 mile for a lot less.
"jacuzzi suite" means there's a jacuzzi bathtub in the standard room.
PM if you want the rez.

Here is our route. I don't have the map in front of me. So I may be a little off.
Thursday from Huntsville
Leave out around 5PM
19 North to Sulphur Springs --
Friday
Leave out around 6 AM.
19 North to Paris -- Breakfast
271 North to Albion -- Gas Stop
271 North to Talimena Scenic Dr -- I think this pops out at Mena on 270 or 71
Talimena Dr to 270/71 in Mena
71 North through Acorn and Y City
23 North all the way to Eureka Springs.
We will be running at a slow pace. It is Alag (Lauren's) first really long trip and I don't want to push her too hard. ;-)
I will be on my Silver R1.
Deb (Snoopster) will be on her Blue SV with a GIVI bag
Lauren (Alag) will be on a black GS500 with a GIVI bag.
