A friend of mine will be opening a Benelli dealership here in Austin. The building is still under construction and is scheduled to open sometime in May. As soon as I hear more details, will post an update. The “High Definition Powersports” website should be online in about a week or so. High Definition Powersports will be located in South Austin on Ben White, between IH35 and Lamar.

Great design....this one looks a little bit under the Versys influence :)

A little though on the $$$ side.

I don't get down there often, but this is near the string of auto dealers right? I think the only bike shop down that way is a Harley dealer.

Has your friend talked about the type of shop he's opening? Obviously a dealership, but any broader services or other brands?

I've wondered if another performance shop will pop up in Austin since AF1 Racing moved to New Braunfels.

Oh, and I assume out of loyalty your Daytona will be up for sale soon, keep us posted. ;)

The location of the store is close to Banister Lane off of Ben White. The shop will also be selling scooters (Flyscooters, Johnny Pag and Vento 250's) and all sorts of motorcycle apparel, accessories and parts along with the Benelli's.

Still planning on holding on to the Daytona. ;-)

Aren't the private-label Flys and Ventos built by Qianjiang as well? (Qianjiang owns Benelli.)

I stopped by this new shop today. Here is what I know:

The owner, Jeff Taylor is a very nice guy. I asked a few questions about gear, service, etc. that I could pass along.

1. The service area is clean and the service guy is nice as well.

2. His primary source of parts/gear is Tucker Rocky and Helmet House. His primary gear brands are Vanson, Teknic, Oxtar, Shoei, Shark, and some other less expensive helmet brand. Tires are B-stone, Dunlop, Avon, & Continental.

3. He mounts & balances tires free if you buy them from him. Call him to check prices.

4. He will mount & balance web tires, but he is $35 off the bike. He may eventually change that if it brings him other business. (he didn't actually say that 2nd part, but he still has to find out where his niche is going to be.)

5. I saw the first Benelli they had put together, and it is pretty sweet. Lots of bling. Fit & Finish did not appear to be on par with Ducs, but overall it was still sweet. But yes, a bit too much $$$ for me. If I drop $15K on a bike it will be a Duc 1098.

6. He sells what seems to be some nice scooters and I think this is what will make him the most money/customers. He is relatively close to south/central Austin and I think he'll sell lots of these scooters w/ the gas prices. Just my $.02.

Jason - Thanks for the feedback. I talked to Jeff and they now have three Benelli's on the floor. The other two were still in their crates.

There are a few, Kasson Yamaha just south of downtown and the Cowboy Honda is now open in Kyle. There are quite a few scooter shops on this side of the river, the Urban Moto on Lamar just south of Barton Springs, Vespa Austin and another one in the shopping center where the Alamo Drafthouse is on South Lamar. Those are just the ones that I know of.

With Jesse James being co-owner of the South Austin Speed Shop I wonder if a bike or two might make its way out of there.

Where are Benelli's manufactured? Where they just recently bought by some large Asian company?

I know someone in San Antonio who has 2-3 new Benellis for sale. He recently sold his Suzuki/Benelli store in Lytle, TX and the new owners didn't take the Benelli franchise. The bikes are still on floorplan I believe and I am sure that he would work a serious deal if anyone is interested. The bikes are absolutely beautiful. I would have bought one from him but I prefer a bike that likes to stop occasionally for tea and crumpets.

Contact me if you are interested and want his contact info.

Interesting to see a Benelli place. While certainly a different ride back in the day, a Moto Benelli was the first two wheeler I ever tried. This was in '67 or '68. Who could have guessed about today's Bikes, wowie zowie!
