Anyone know of any good stretches of road near North Dallas that have some good twisties? Doesn't need to be very long, just looking to go out have some fun and see what the Connie will do!

Thanks.

what he said 455.

It will be your best bet. Take it until it intersects 377 at pilot point and head north a few miles to Tioga and stop in at Clark's Outpost for some good barbeque.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been to Clark's before and was impressed. I'll have to venture east on 455 Sunday am, assuming the weather is supposed to hold!

Thanks!

lunch at Clarks, then ride 902 or 922, can hit either or both easily..go out one, come back the other...I think it is 922 that goes over the dam, with a great hill on the far side

Go west on 922 or 902 from 377, just north of Clarks

Oh..and our bikes would be a matched pair almost *laughs* My connie is a 2000 as well, in "Ticket Me Red", the Connie likes 455, just not the cipseal sections

Hello,
Saw your post today. Maybe you should post that in the rides section; unless of course you had your heart set on riding alone.

Hey Wabbit!
How long is this route?

I"ll try this again. I just typed a long response and the browser glitched and I lost it all.

Here goes again.

From 75/635 to Clarks Outpost is about 55 miles or 110 roundtrip.

If you leave from Plano at about 10:30 you will be at CLark's in time for lunch.

The way I like to go is: Head north on 75 until it intersects FM543. That is about 20 miles from 75/635. Go west on FM543, this is a nice road also. FM543 intersects FM455. Keep heading west on FM455. Watch for the signs for FM455 at one point it turns left and I sometimes miss that turn. 455 intersects 377 at Pilot Point, from there turn right (north) and go a couple miles up 377 to Clark's Outpost on the right after you cross the lake. From the beginning of 543 to CLark's is about 35 miles.

455 is a decent road fo beginners because the land is nice and flat and there arent any trees so you can see through the turns pretty well. I first rode this route as a beginner last summer. It was led by Randy and Mer. I have probably been back there 5 or 6 times since.

After Clark's pull out your map and pick where you want to go. Any of the roads up there are decent for cruising.

Just a little disclaimer. 455 is a decent road, but its no Deal's Gap. Remember we live in North East Texas. This land was settled be ranchers staking their claim. 455 has turns in it becuase it cuts horizontally through the ranches and runs along their borders. Most of the turns on 455 are a series of 90 degree turns zig zaggin around the borders of rectangular ranch property.

Also the road has a chip seal surface which feels pretty weird under your tires. If it is wet I would take it easy on the road. When it is dry it seems to be ok, but I wouldn't push as hard as if it were regular asphault.

I would offer to ride up there this weekend. Sunday looks like it is going to be nice. But, I am taking my bike back to the shop for a little fine tuning while I am out of town next week. If you dont get to go out there this weekend I could possibly ride out there next Sunday.

2862 is not bad; 8 mile strecth between Anna and Westminster. (close to 455 (in Anna). up near sherman is 697 which in my opinion is better than 455 (especially since 455 was chip sealed last summer - still very rough).

there is a little road that runs from lucas to the mckinney airport. i believe the number is 546. There is also 1327 from mckinney to 545. very nice.

other than 697, these are all within 30 minutes of plano. 697 is about an hour but well worth it.

Yeah 697 is nice. After I get back from my business trip I want to head north to hit 455 and 697 again.

Watch for dogs on 697

The old Burns City Road that runs south from Gainesville to FM 922 is a nice road. I don't remember it's FM number though. To reach it go to Tioga as if you are going to Clarke's BBQ, but continue North on 377 for a couple of miles and then turn West on FM 922. The Burns City Road intersection is at about the half way point between Tioga & Valley View.

Turn right at the four way stop and head North towards Gainseville. There are some nice curves mixed in with some decent hills (for North Texas). I found this road years ago when I was a bicycle racer. This road is about as hilly as you will find in this vicinity. At the northern end of the road you can turn east towards Lake Kiowa and Collinsville which is on US 377 or you can go on into Gainesville.

FM 922 from Forrestburg to the intersection of FM 373 south of Muenster is also a nice road.

Thanks for all the replies to my question on good roads in the DFW area. I can make a list and start hitting them once the weather improves!

I ride the area all the time. A few weeks ago I happened upon a curve in the road. Had to stop, get out the owner's manual and read up on what to do.
