1000' strip :ponder: It has been many years since I have been to the drags, Is this something new?

Nice pic's though, I always wanted to jet down the strip in my younger years, any idea what the Bandit runs in the 1/4?

1000 foot strips were a passing fad back in the day, they thought the shorter track would be easier on parts, but the purists said no to the 1000 foot concept.

Centerville is a fun track, I used to run up there when I lived in Benton, the old strip at Carlisle was fun as well, good times for 1000', next time I get
up that way to spend some riding time you will have to come out with us

Sorry, but drag racing with inappropriate gear will get my negative comments...

At the end of the day when things go wrong its the gear that saves
your butt..

I think anyone thats ever been to the drags, knows taking it to redline, dumping the clutch, revving out every gear, over and over trying to improve your efforts, knows its fun.....stats live forever, and are bragging rights!

the best we ever did, was with a basically stock engine. smoothbore carbs, chained down lowered forks, slick, sidemounted headers, and a new intake cam sprocket, other than changing the cam timing, a stock motor, we went 10.32 (ten thirty-two) in the 1/4 mile. that was with a '82 GS1100E, in 1983, at LACR, palmdale CA.

I would like to think a stock GSF 1250 bandit would get to low 12's.
I really havnt looked at perf figures, do they still publish that?

not on this one, but on one like it. (yes, I still have it)

Quarter Mile times for most bikes...

Personally i wouldnt buy a bike without knowing its quarter mile times
the GSF1250S Bandit pulls a neat 11 secs...

With Holeshot stage one mods only, Dale ran consistent 10.40's ! :rider:
With the full header, proper gearing and Dale riding the bike who knows, perhaps he will give it a go again after he completes his final tuning.

If I may, Back in 79 I had a 77 Sportster that i took to the all HD drags here in temple, It did 11.8 all day and won 1st place stock XL. Im still proud of that. I know the Bandit would wax that old sporty but it sure seemed fast back then.

that seems fast for a stock sporty, this here says it could only do about 13.00. are we talking 1/4 mi times?

not trying to steal any thunder from Mr worm, or you Mr sz rider, doing it is what its all about.
It was hard for me to be consistent, my times were all over the place. one mistake and the time went out the window. it was always easier with a full tank of gas. before LACR closed, some friends went and wanted me to take my then new bandit out. I knew I couldnt go as my helmet was out of date. Maybe somday a trackday or drags will be in my future.
its good to see someone take theirs out and hammer it. and nice to read about older sporsters doing it.

Yeah,
sold it to buy the Bandit it had 30,000 kms on it, the Bandit is better for all day riding much more comfortable, almost as quick, and you dont need to be exact with what gear your in for passing.

cheers arbee
