Hello.
I may purchase an old Triumph TR5T with motor, wheels, and some other parts that I may race. If nothing else, if I get it it will be a trackday bike. I know I will have to get a racing license and all to actually race. If I get it and race it, I plan to go into AHRMA to campaign it.
Anybody here race vintage bikes? Tell us about it. :-D

Check with Irondawg. His rommie Arthur is going to be racing a vintage at Daytona this year! Some kind of old Yammie I think :scratch

Yeah, I race a vintage 1988 CR80 motard... And, of course, I'm a 1952 vintage rider, if that counts.
WERA has a good vintage series you might wanna check into and CMRA runs vintage classes, but there's not much in the way of other competition there. WERA's vintage stuff is a lot more competitive and of course AHMRA is THE vintage venue. Hope you're prepared for a lot of driving and expenses, though. :-(
When WERA/CRRC (back in the day) came out with the vintage and classics classes, I built a '72 Yamaha R5 to race since it was the cheapest way I could think of to race at the time. I was sorta short of scratch to buy a bike. Well, after riding it, I decided if I have to ride such a wobbly *** to keep racing, I'd just quit... I was by that time spoiled by TZ250s. I never have much been into the vintage scene for that reason, rather ride the newer tech stuff cause it's better and, to me, a lot more fun. But, I've discovered minis now for my cheaper than cheap thrills. ;-) Real vintage racing as in AHMRA, well, that costs some real bucks. Most of the apeal of it to the guys that do it, I think, is more the machinery than the actual competition, though make no mistake, these guys take their racing SEROUSLY. I've enjoyed walking the vintage pits at WERA stuff, though, just for the nostalgia and cool British iron. ;-)

I didn't get the bike after all. I couldn't find a garage I could use to put it together (my home has no garage :miffed: but hope that changes soon) and since I am in work transition, I decided it would be best to wait.
I'll get there. Just not today. ;-)
