I've lived in Texas my whole life (61 years) and had never been to Palo Duro or Caprock Canyons. So since my riding partner (my son) had other plans, my wife and I decided to check them out in the cage since she doesn't much like to ride.

We left on Saturday morning, drove to Amarillo for the night and spent Sunday at Palo Duro. We spent Sunday night at Canyon and saw Caprock on Monday on our way home.

This would make a nice weekend motorcycle trip, but take my advice and do it earlier in the Spring or in the late fall. It was very hot there on Memorial Day weekend. Almost made me glad I was in the car.

A recap of the trip is on my website (link below): go to "Trips" and then click the third link under "Weekend Trips".

Enjoy!

I was surprised when I went just how beautiful some of the areas up there are. Before my trip my only experience with the Panhandle had been on 287, then around Amarillo and out of the State as fast as I could go. The pictures I took really don't do justice to all the little canyons and such.

Nice little website! :thumb:

I noticed your bike has the Two Bros, how do you like the sound? Does it sound like a car or a bike?

My experience with the Panhandle is like yours. Hwy. 287 and get to Colorado as quickly as possible. You're correct, there is some spectacular scenery there.

I bought and installed the Two Bros. exhaust the week before my Colorado trip last year. So I had only ridden it up the road and back about a mile before we left.

As soon as we got back after 3600 miles of sound agony, I took them off and sold them on ebay. I hated them. Too loud and it didn't sound good. The only other bikes I've had with louder than stock exhaust has been Harleys. Nothing sounds as good as a Harley, so I liked their sound. I'd like to have a lighter, more free flowing muffler but not one like that.

So the ST has the stock mufflers back on it and I'm happy. Of course I didn't have the satellite or the two way radio on the Harley so the sound didn't bother me.

Like your web site. I bookmarked it to use some of the maps you listed. I wanna try the St. Jo trip. Been up there before but not on that route.

Thanks. The St. Jo loop is a pretty good ride. I had never been up that way. There's some nice scenery, especially when you get near the river.
