RideSmart is partnering with the group here at Two Wheeled Texans to have a meet & greet at our July 19 & 20 event at Eagles Canyon Raceway up near Decatur,TX.

It will be on the Saturday, July 19 and 20. Feel free to come for one or both days. We will have free lunch for everyone (burgers & hot dogs) and several drawings for free trackdays, discounts, t-shirts, etc. We will also have at least 1 parade lap each day during lunch for anyone that rides out there.

I will post up more details in the near future, but wanted to get the anouncement out there for you to be able to make plans to get out there.

Let em know if you have any questions.

If you would like to sign up for the trackdays themselves, feel free to do that as well. Only $100 per day! https://www.ridesmart.info/mm5/merchant.mvc?

Here are some of the event highlights:

1. July 19 and 20 ECR track day prices have officially been set at $100 per day. Now, where else can you get two full days of weekend track riding for $200? I have looked and could not find even similar pricing anywhere. So sign up for a Saturday, or Sunday, or both. The weekend will be a blast no matter what.

2. We all know Ben Spies will be testing his skills in the big pond of MotoGP racing. We will be showing Ben going at it on a 50" TV at ECR. All are welcome to come see the race and hang out with us. On Saturday, we will be showing available footage (if it is shown) during the day. If there is anything to be shown (MotoGP or otherwise), we will tape it and have it replayed in the evening. Of course, we will be showing the race on Sunday (go BEN!!!)

3. TRACK RIDING HOURS: 8AM TO 6PM. That's 10 HOURS WORTH OF RIDING!! Yes - an extra 2 hours of track time. You can take a mid day break from riding and still get all your money's worth.

4. We will be holding a 'coolest' bike contest. The 1st prize will be $200, and the 2nd prize will be $100. So bring your friends and their bikes. There will not be any gate fee, so no reason not to come check this out.

5. Free food for all that show up. Hamburgers and hotdogs with sides will be ready for all riders and everyone else that shows up. We really need to get a good count of all who are planning to come (riders and spectators). Please send us emails at ridesmart@mac.com with the number of people who are coming with you. Please do so as soon as you can.

6. We will be holding a parade lap (2.5mi), which will be open to public. Bring your bike along and you will get to ride the track* (* bike should be road worthy).

7. We will have draws for 10 free track days and 2 free Ty Howard Race school days.

8. There will be dealership prize draws (very attractive prizes arranged by the dealerships). So make sure to be there, as you may be the winner of one of these.

9. Free camping Friday and Saturday night.

So as you can see, there will be plenty to do for anyone that shows up.
It is promising to be a great weekend, so do not delay and claim your spot on the rider roster. If you do not plan to ride, come out as well. With so many prizes being given away, chances are great you will come out with one of them.

Attached, is a brochure for the event, so print it out and give it to your friends.

Just a reminder in case it was not clear in the original post, you do not have to do a track day to attend this event. The idea is to get folks out there that might be interested in finding out more about track days but might not be ready to pull the trigger on one. The food is for everyone, not just those signed up for the track day.

I spoke with Dave about this yesterday. Any TWT'ers interested in seeing how RideSmart does its track days should come out to see one. Dave and the rest of the RideSmart staff are good folks and put on good events. ECR also has a safe place to watch where you can see the vast majority of the track. The owners of ECR continue to work hard to have a nice facility and that has not been an easy task for them. Support 'em both.

If you decide to participate in the track day, odds are good you'll improve your skill. Odds are even better that you'll have a great time. I know I'm hooked. I'm hopeful work will permit me to participate. If not, I'll try to at least ride out for the meet & greet. :eat:

Welcome to the site! Not sure what time observers will arrive, but the track day events usually start pretty early. They let folks in the gates around 7:00am and start sessions around 8:00-8:30am. The day usually winds up around 5:00pm-ish.

:tab The parade lap is just that, a SLOW parade. I don't believe leathers are required for this, but Jason should know for sure.

After the first experience??!! I am there now, and I have never attended a track day. I would be all over the track days but with only one horse in the stable, I cant afford to make a mistake and mess the bike up.

Could rent a bike.. but I bet thier insurance does not cover a track day. :ponder:

You don't need a super sport bike. A Ninja 250 will do. The key is to learn to ride smooth and conserve momentum. A big bike can actually make that harder to do because you use the power as a crutch. So ultimately, your highest level of riding may be lower if you start big. The Ninja 250's are cheap, even if you completely wad it up. Suzuki GS 500's are also great. You can get older mid to late 90's 600's of any make real cheap.

I agree... I am sort of looking for one.... sort of... money is need other places now.

Talking about the 250's... I think that the MotoGP 250 race is often more fun to watch than the big boys (800's).. The 250's bikes are all out most of the time, thus the race is much closer and more exciting.

is there a site to explain the track rules? the link to the ECR registration has leathers and boots that I assume can be rented. What is their policy for insurance? i am thinking about buying a bike for the track but need to know what will have to be done to it. Know any super motos I could get cheap?

I would prefer to ride a dirt bike like my KLR250 or a supermoto on a track since I am not used to a street bike. Even a Ninja 250 would be an odd feel and i am not sure I could corner on it like I can my KLR.

I don't reaally want to strip the KLR 250 to be able to ride it on the track.

Where can I get info on the track rules etc.

Requirements for you & the bike: http://www.ridesmart.info/requirements.htm

Format of the trackday (Level 1 - Beginner) is:
http://www.ridesmart.info/events.htm (Column 3 for Eagles Canyon)

We ride 20 minute sessions; during your 40 minutes off the track, about 20-25 will be in the classroom. The remainder wil be in the pits w/ your friends, restroom break, food/water break, etc.

As far as "rules" go in Level 1, the first session is a round-robin where a handful of students "follow the leader" and each take turns getting at least 1 lap behind the instructor. The rest of the sessions are "track time" except those where you might be working 1-on-1 w/ an isntructor. You can go as fast as you want. We, of course, encourage riding in control, allow room for error, etc. all of which will be discussed in the classroom prior to you getting on the track. The passing rules for Level 1 are: Passing on the straights is allowed, no pasing on the inside of a turn all day, no exceptions. Passing on the outside is allowed after the instructors agree that the group is ready for such a thing.

Did that answer some/all of your questions?

Yes, RideSmart has their own gear rental as well. So if you plan to attend, you can rent a full leathers set for the day. And yes, they do have some gear for the good ol' big boys too. Not sure how big you have in your mind, but you can speak to Dave at 512.469.9491, he will let you know what he has available. From what I remember, he has a trailer full of rental gear available for usage.

Hope this helps you out. If you already have gear, you may not have to rent any. Go to www.ridesmart.info to find out about gear needed for track days. If you still have questions, contact Dave, who will give you a good idea if your gear is adequate. Do not worry, chances that you will get to test your gear are minimal (unless you stop using your brain at the track).

Take care.

Since RideSmart is a motorcycle school, you should not have issues with coverage should anything happens. If, on the other hand you were to attend a race event, it would be a different story. Just some info.

When I did my trackdays, my insurance covered the bike because it was a closed course instructional class and NOT a racing or timed event. If you are in doubt, contact your insurance company, explain to them what you are doing, and see what they say.

If you guys come out to spectate, why not do a corner work? You will get the best seats on the track and will also get a free track day credit. All for doing same you would do otherwise (but getting a track day out of it).

Not trying to push you into it though. I once thought I would go hang out at the track for a day to see how it is, but then decided to do cw and did not regret. Got to see all the action and took pics of many riders for later too.

Just found this posted on another forum. It's video taken from a car running at ECR and has an overview of the track in the corner and shows the position of the car as he makes the lap.

Looks like a few good straights for clean passing, tight turns at the end of most of them, and a few double-apex turns to keep everything interesting! :rider:

I'll be doing the track day on Sunday. As for the track, it has a couple of LONG straights with some serious braking and the majority of turns are double apex. As the RideSmart folks will tell you during the track drive, braking has to start for some of those turns (at least one) before you can see the turn. The elevation changes certainly keep it interesting.

I'm stoked because my last outing there was rain shortened. Looks to be no risk of that this time.:rider:

I worked the last event at MSR in the corners both days and it was interesting to say the least. All the differnet lines and capabilities of the riders was a great learning experience. I have 2 credits but truly doubt I will use them, I truly enjoy watching and my wife doesn't want me on the track. I wish I could pay the credits forward to someone who would use them. One can give the credit to someone else. So if you have a credit, you would sell on the for sale section (here or on another forum). Then you would contact RS and tell them you are giving the credit to person with name x.y.
Simple as that. I am not sure if other schools allow credit transfer, but with RideSmart it is allowed.

Don't be. It is natural to be nervous with things you have never done. Keep in mind that you will be in level 1 (I assume), and that you will ride with others of same skill level.
You will start at whatever the skill you have now, and will get familiar with the track. As you put on more and more laps, your comfort with riding the track will increase, and so will your confidence. Then you will see yourself starting to apply the class concepts learned, and will start adding speed little by little. Before the end of the day you will be scooting around much quicker than you were at the start of the day. Mark my words.
We will not be rushing you to go fast. This is your track time and you should use it however you want.

See you there. I guarantee you will have fun.

Track Sessions start at 8am, and stop at 6pm. Level 3 and 4 go out first, then level 2, then level 1. Levels 1 and 2 are in class when not on track.

Please plan to be there early. Registration will begin at 6am sharp, and whatever you do (especially if this is your first time at ECR), do not miss the track drive as it will give you a view of the track that cannot be obtained from a moving motorcycle.

The weather is shaping up to be great, so I hope we all have a blast this weekend.

WOW...look at the weather forecast... http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/sports/tenday/USTX1269?from=36hr_topnav_sports

I will NOT be there at 6:00am :eek2: :lol2: About the only thing I am capable of doing at that hour is stumbling to the bathroom and then back to bed... However, I will try to be there around 8:00am to setup. It is looking more and more like I won't be riding...

If you need leathers speak now or forever hold your peace - I'm not making the drive twice.

I plan on getting there sometime around 10 or 11 Sunday morning. This is just a scouting mission for me. I just want to check out the facility, do the parade lap, watch so ride ride the track at speed and then watch MotoGP. I've never done a track day, so I just want to see what to expect.

Expect it to raise your hearbeat and bring a huge grin to your face. Expect it to cause you to pick up overtime and work double shifts to pay for the new addiction. Expect to want a dedicated track bike and leathers... :rider:

I will be there Saturday before lunch. I want to do the parade lap and then hang out and watch everyone, plus I have never been to the facility. Looking forward to it.

My riding suit will work. The Kevlar is actually stronger than leather and the top/bottom zip together.

I registered to rent leathers when I registered for the track time on that web site and paid there. I think I will want to get a DVD too but did not pay for that at registration. I am looking forward to the track time.

I'm meeting beardking at I35 and 1171 at 10:30. That puts me leaving B-son at about 9:45. I'm pretty much just slabbing it up there. No time for a scenic route. Wanna hook up somewhere?

What are the requirements to ride in the parade lap? My brother wants to ride in that. I thought i saw some requirements for that. Is it just long pants. I am sure no leathers for the parade, right?

Correct - I rode it today in jeans, jacket & helmet (plus other stuff that I normally wear like boots)

It was fun and not boring slow either! :thumb:

Did you make the event? I only recall meeting a few people that made it to actually ride, but quite a few that came out to watch.

Yes I made it out. I met Dave and a few a guy in the tire store. I was on my yellow ninja 250 in the level one class and it was a blast. I got to race another 250 for a few turns until he blew my doors off after I mised a few lines on corners and then I never saw him again. I rode alone most of the day because anyone that got close to me passed me as soon as they got close on a corner. It was great that I did not have to worry aabout any one else since I could not catch anyone.

Thanks for everything and getting the word out.:sun:

Okay, I recall seeing the 250's together on the track. I did not realize that was you. I was upstairs talking with another guy about good track bikes and pointed out the 250's to him as you guys were coming out of the last corner there by the pit entrance.

Hubby (Guy) and I rode our bikes to Eagle Canyon on Saturday. It was nice seeing the folks from TWT. The roads leading to Eagle Canyon are nice for riding. He taught Level I on Sunday and commented how hot it was.

The famlily and I stopped in on Sunday. Ran into Scott as he was gearing up to go home, and picked up my new shirt! Thanks Scott!

Watching the bikes on the track was cool. I wish the track had a road or something to get to other area's around the track to see whats going other than turn 11
