Forest good - river bad

The State outlawed riding on the banks of any river within the state. The only exceptions being rivers that do not both begin and end inside the state borders.

Why is that? Errosion issues?

I'll see if I can find the actual report from A&M that discusses the ruling. I think I know where it is so maybe I can find it today.

Found it quicker than I thought I would.

Why is that? Errosion issues?

They gave all sorts of flawed reasons, one of which was riverbank erosion, though a good storm can erode those banks more in a day than ORV's could in a month. They also talked about water pollution from leaking fluids, oil, coolant, etc, but they're happy to let PWC's and boats out there puking the same fluids. The only realistic issue raised is that a lot of people don't care where they toss their trash.

Really, though, the big drive behind this was private landowners who wanted to deny the public any access to what they saw as their own private water source.
