Well I spent Sunday working on the SV and watching the races. First though I had to drop the wife off at the airport. On the way back I stopped by Home Depot and Autozone. WHile I was at Home Depot I picked up the first nice thing to have:

1. A dial type micrometer

These things are great for measureing all sorts of parts and pieces for anything you have, right down to 1/1000 of an inch. Great for working tolerances for a motorcycle engine

At AutoZone, while picking up a few things for the cages in the family, on a whim I pick up no. 2 item

2. Mechanix Gloves

I really had thought of these as for wheenies who can stand to get their hands dirty but no more. They are perfect for working around a hot engine or exhast system. Like when you are doing a tune. Tight enough to be able to pick up a small screw of the floor yet still comfortable. And yes as a bonus they keep your hands clean.

Then I get home, sync up the carbs on the SV, change the oil and filter and wheel it out into the driveway and give it a good wash. After I get it all clean I remeber that I had bought some Plexus plastic cleaner and polish the last time I was at Woods, so I decided to shine up the SV. This is the no. 3 thing to have

3. Plexus Plastic Cleaner

Man this stuff really does the job. I dont think the fairing and tail on the SV have looked this good since I bought it.

Anyway, thought I would just pass this along. Time to back to watch the races.

That's funny....The first thing I did when I dropped my wife at the airport last week was to go to Lowes and pick up a few things for the garage (shelves, ladder hooks, etc) to make more room for my bike.

My wife always jokes that she never worries about me cheating on her, but she's scared everytime she comes to as to what she'll find in the garage

Yeah, same here. In fact, I am really not supposed to go to Home Depot or Sears alone. My wife says she is always amazed at what I will come home with.

Hey, a man can never have too many tools. 8)

I've been purposely trying to avoid Sears, but with father's day coming up and the wife and son still out of town, but I may give in to temptation. If I make her feel guilty enough for not being in town, I may get away with a new socket set. I have two partial sets (thanks to my son....you'd be surprised how much noise sockets make ratteling around in your car's muffler), but I'd really like one full set.

Another scary place is Harbor Freight. They have a good online store but the actual stores themselves are just like a candy store. I went in the one here in Austin and I couldnt buy anything because I wanted way to much.

What a terrible thing to happen.

Howdy,

Man my list of must have things seems to be growing far far fster than my budget for acquiring them. I'd love to drop a few hundred on some of the prefabbed cabinets at Lowes or Home Depot for my garage so I could clean it up a bit. I hate looking at all the junk laying on shelves and workbenches. Then I'd like to put a hanging electrical outlet spool and air compressor hookup in the center of the ceiling. Then new garage doors, a window unit in the only window, a new standup tool chest appropriately filled... Tis only the tip of the iceberg...

I have to go into these stores with blinders on. Otherwise it is torture walking up and down the aisles seeing all the cool stuff calling out to me. :|

It doesn't help that I am a geek and gadget freak.

Since my previous days of turning wrenches required me to amass a huge set of tools and equally huge toolbox, my short list of wanted items includes some rather large items.

1st: Large garage/shop with enough room for a few bikes, room for at least three cars, a large work area and a high enough ceiling for a vehicle lift.

2nd: Rotary (or similar type) above ground self contained asymmetrical automobile lift. I used to be a mechanic, so I feel naked without one.

3rd: Scissors style platform lift for bikes like they use at the dealer. I already have the Pit-Bull stands, the lift would keep me from rolling around on the ground and in the occasional fluid spills.

4th: Engine hoist for my automotive projects.

5th: Transmission jack. Not really needed, but they sure are nice to have when you have to pull a heavy trans out of a truck.

And finally or perhaps this should have been first, a job that pays well enough when I finish school to afford all this...

Happy wrenching! :)

Oh, yeah. One more thing. A fridge in the shop with beverages for me and my helpers. :chug:
