I'd like this on my bike but can't find a mount that puts it up high and center above the gauges next to the windshield.

What kind of mount are you looking for.
You can couple those center pieces together.

If given the choice would you pick up a Garmin Nuvi 660 (http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?omid=108&ref=cnet&utm_source=Cnet&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GRNUVI660&sku=GRNUVI660) for $309? It would be used both in the car and on the bike.

Looks like a great deal, maybe even better than the c580, but I use a 76CSx on the bike that I am happy with so for me it wouldn't be worth the extra $110.
However I mention the C580 for the car because it is not waterproof.
The Nuvi is also not waterproof, so why is it good for both?

I'm not sure, but I don't think the C series stores track logs, so just something to look for when deciding on a unit. Not all of us use the log feature, but I personally like to get a reporting of what I've done and where I've been.

I can live without the waterproof - I'll just tuck it away in the tank bag if it rains.;-)

When I need a track log I have the 76CSx.
The C580 is for having a hands free bluetooth car kit, finding my way and avoiding accidents, construction and congestion.
The 76CSx is for the boonies (car or bike).
The C580 is for around town and general auto travel.

Then why is the 660 worth 109 more than the 580?
The 660 has a little bigger display, audio books and pictures but the 580 has MSN Direct.

It has some features the other two do not have, but it does not have bluetooth.
Here is the compare page for all three -

What does the "Track Log" tell you?

What does the "Track Log" tell you?
Track log is a record of where you've been. It reviews your average speed, actual time moving, stopped, max speed, elevation, etc.
I like to use it to see where I stopped, which roads I had to u-turn and backtrack on, etc. without having to make notes. I can also overlay the track and the route I was planning on taking to see how they compare.
The inexpensive cost of the C580 has my attention. :-D
I wouldn't have any problem putting it on the bike since my recreational rides are usually rain free, but I'd want to be able to upload or program a route and it doesn't look like it's capable of that. Are there any other GPS units that are inexpensive but have a manual route input feature?

The C580 will do 500 waypoints but it does not do routes.
I think the waypoints have to be uploaded and can not be entered on the unit itself.
