Can any of you out there think of any issues with wiring a Zumo directly to the tiny 3 amp battery on a DR350S? Would the magneto be an issue if I tried to wire in at the ignition?
What about the KLR650? I know RICK_M had one wired direct to his KLR, but I'm not sure if it was wired directly to the battery or if he spliced into a hot wire coming from the ignition switch so the unit would be off when he turned off his ignition switch?
Thanks
As long as you use an in-line fuse, no issues.

On the TA it is currently wired into a fuse panel that is controlled by a relay and is only on with the ignition. On the DRZ I had it wired into the hot side of the switch (basically straight to battery). When the Zumo is not in the mount, the mount shouldn't draw any power so it shouldn't drain the battery. Also when the zumo is turned off it isn't supposed to charge in the mc mount.
There are pros and cons to both ways. Always hot and the gps doesn't shutdown every time you turn off the bike, but if you forget to turn it off it will draw power and on a small battery you may get a surprise next time you ride. Hot with key you will never kill the bike battery, but the zumo will prompt you every time you kill power. It will ask if you want it to continue on it's own battery power. Nice, but if you don't notice the prompt it shuts down. It will auto start when you power up again. Kind of a pain if you are riding dirt and opening gates a lot. You could leave the bike key on in those cases though.
Anyway, I've tried both ways and like straight to the battery better. I just haven't redone the TA that way yet.
