I have a Honda Magna 750. When I accelerate out of any gear I get a throbbing noise from somewhere. I think it might be the chain. Any ideas. Could the chain need to be tightened? The performance is not affected. Is this a common thing?

Need more information, please.

A loose chain sounds very clackety and loud.

Adjust it to spec and lube it, then get the rear wheel off the ground and rotate the rear tire. Tight spots, kinks or abnormal noise indicate it is fried. Replace sprockets and chains as a set.

Where in East Texas? Welcome to the site.

Is it a regular cylical noise? Or something like a random noise like a rattle?

Adios,

I'm in Tyler. Talked to the mechanic at the Honda dealership. He suggested pressure washing the chain, then lubing it. The noise is gone now............How often does the chain need to be cleaned and lubed if never taken off road and always on dry pavement?

About every 400 miles according to the manual. Give it a squirt of lube at that interval and get a grunge brush and a gallon of kerosene and have at it every 1000 miles or so. It should last 10-20,000 miles with proper care. BTW, I don't care for the pressure washing idea. Soap past the o-rings would cause catastophic failure when it broke down the grease inside.
