I just found this superb CB 750 Spencer Replica.
It came out of Japan last year.
What is Honda USA waiting for?!...

Honda USA is waiting on the same thing Kawasaki and others are waiting on...demand. Yeah, there are quite a few of us that would like such a bike, but the VAST majority does not...apparently.

Check out Harley's new XR1200...European ONLY model. I'd ride it in a heartbeat, but I won't have the opportunity since the demand here for such a bike is lower than in other parts of the world.

I actually heard HD was bringing the XR1200 this Fall as a 2009 model. Can anyone else confirm that?

Are you going to tell me Triumph is not selling its retro Bonneville? C'mon! There has got to be a market for retro-looking Japanese bikes.

From a reliable source that was at the H-D dealer show.....it will be a mid-year release(i.e. December/January 2008) 2009 model.

Yep, it's a bit of a shame -- but at least we got the Z-Rex.

Ya, know.... that is exactly what I was looking for when I got the FZ-6. I had an old CB750 and loved it dearly.

Problem is there are too many people that want the go fast look of the sport bike. I personally dont like full faired bikes.

Kawasaki offers some neat retro models in their home market, a few years back they had several 73 Z1-900 retro models. They still have the Triumph inspired W650 (http://www.kawasaki-motors.com/model/w650/) and W400 (http://www.kawasaki-motors.com/model/w400/) and the 250TR (http://www.kawasaki-motors.com/model/250tr/[/url) which looks awfully familiar.

No way you could convince American Honda that retro will sell. I mean, it's not like Nighthawk 250s and Elite 80s have been flying out of the showrooms.

Heh, no...I was saying that Honda was waiting on it...not Triumph.

And yes there's definitely a market for deja-new Japanese bikes. I own one myself. I was trying to say that there's simply not as much demand for them as there is for the repli-racers.

That's the main reason Kawasaki doesn't sell ZRX'es (among other models) in the US anymore, even though the bikes are still in production. You have to go overseas to get an '08 ZRX, and they are magnificent in my opinion. The pictures below are from Kawasaki's Australian site and are in their gallery for '08 models.

I don't know what kind of sales numbers Honda is looking for - or anybody else for that matter - but it seems to me that UJMs would sell. I see lots of people lamenting the demise of the standard. Quite a few members of the Strom collective have said that one of the big draws is the "standard" riding position. Lots of dual sports never leave paved roads - people buy them for real world comfort. In other words, a fairly upright, "standard" riding position. Look at the responses to this thread. Look at the responses on the Trans-Alp thread. There IS a market for bikes like this.
