View Full Version : Cop Ignores Violation

Yesterday on the way home from work I was sitting next to a city cop at a red light. The light turned green. We both started to go.

At that moment a woman in a Ford Explorer blasted across the intersection in front of both of us. Cell phone to ear of course.

Both the cop and I had to put on our brakes to stop rolling forward. Then, much to my horror, the cop shoots away from the intersection and continues down the road. Not only did he ignore the violation, he didn't even honk or flash his lights.

This was no "barely missed it" red light running friends. This was a full on, 3 second later blow-through.

I followed the cop down the road to see where he was going so important that he didn't need to stop red light runners. He proceeded around the loop at 75mph (it's a 50mph zone the whole way, and I swear to God he was going 75 because I paced him) and, you guessed it, turned in the the Sizzler.

By now I was pissed. That woman could have killed me. So I pulled into the Sizzler and watched. No robbery in progress. No drunken patron. He got in line to get a plate for the buffett.

I'm very pro-law enforcement, but stuff like this is what makes people dislike cops. It makes those revenue generation speeding tickets at speed traps very hard to swallow.

Hey, I don't like anyone jacking up my lunch hour, but c'mon. That woman was blatantly and obviously dangerous.

I wonder what he would have done if it had been a crotch rocket

I think they have to selectively enforce the law. Otherwise they'd be so overwhelmed they could do nothing. Sad commentary on our populace though :-|

Of course this seems to be an exceptionally bad case. The only thing that would have made you more upset is if he had turned into the stereotypical donut shop :-P

A few years back, my wife and I slowed down for a yellow traffic light. We were in the middle of 3 lanes, an officer was already about stopped in the right lane.

The light turned red, and at least a couple of seconds later, we heard a loud downshifting V-8 sound, and a pickemup BLEW through the red light to our left.

The next few seconds were like a classic sitcom moment; my wife and I, in unison, looked to our right to watch the officer go after the truck.

He just sat there, apparently oblivious to anything.

It was there and then that I realized that running stop signs/lights is apparently condoned, and to make sure I count to 3 before entering any intersection.

Yesterday, I watched a cruiser get on MoPac, stay in the "lane MUST enter expressway" lane, and get right back off, in order to avoid a stoplight (common practice on this stretch).

Sigh.... I must remind myself to not sweat the small stuff, at least no officers were chasing motorcyclists into the sides of buildings... ;)

I wonder what 10-95 thinks? :)

I wonder what 10-95 thinks? :)

You guys are killing me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  First doughnuts then the Sizzler!!!!

I have to admit I've gone code 3 to dinner too.........and yes, with blinders on. No excuses here, but sometimes to be able to get some vittles or a bathroom break you simply have to let 'em go.

Then again, sometimes I'm several hours late getting off or I go hungry or I pee behind a dumpster because I get stuck out somewhere doing my best crimefighter imitation and putting the bad guy in the pokey. (No one seems to see that part though)

HOWEVER the next person with a doughnut joke gets shot in the kneecaps!!!! Doughnuts repulse me. Offer me a good breakfast taco though.............

buck000,

Austin area traffic SUCKS!!! And who planned the layout of the city? Some drunk on the corner?

10-95,

hehe. I'm convinced that the worst civil engineers in the country are sent here for some sort of remedial on the job training. In Round Rock, there's a brand new road that has a left lane that just.....stops...with a barrier. bleh.

I still think Austin traffic is almost genteel compared to DFW or HOU; I have to take spare sets of Depends when visiting those highways...!
