I have had the roady in my closet for a year (used to use it in a car). Now that I got my big ear headphones I decided to have it reactivated. I plugged in my headphones directly to the roady and used an in line volume control to control the volume. It works great, everything, including the antenna, is in the tank bag and I can use the button through the window of the bag. What is not so good it the sound quality, it does not have enough bass. There is no way to control it on the roady since it was intended to be used to plug into another audio device.

What optioins, that would be relatively cheap, could I use to improve the sound quality. I need a device that has a bass/treble control to adjust the output. The headphones are good because they sound great with the Iphone Ipod. Its the XM receiver that is just so so. When I had it in the car it was not as good as the radio but at least I could control the treble/bass through the car radio. Another thing is that the roady has a built in FM modulater so something that has an FM radio would pick up the signal. Maybe something that was a FM radio that I could wear would keep me from being teathered to the tank bag. As I was typing this I figured I could use a mp3 player with an FM radio, which I just tried, but for some reason the equilizer did not work with the radio function, just the music playback files (strange, one was a sandisk and the other was a creative labs, both old and cheap).

Any ideas to improve my sound?

jbh,
Maybe time for an upgrade? I had the original Delphi SkyFi for years. While it was fine thru a car stereo, no bass thru headsets. Just upgraded to the SkyFi3 a couple of months ago(Crutchfield had them on sale for appx $60). Works great as a portable. Built in vol cont, eq, can record 10hrs of live xm, mini SD port for your own music, built in battery for use as an MP3 player, fm transmitter. I run mine through an Autocom system for rider and passenger and the audio is pretty darn good! You can run it straight thru earbuds and adjust the volume and eq to suite.

I got a boosteroo from radioshack and that seems to have made it better. It was already loud enough but with more power from the boosteroo the sound is more full. I am sure if I upgraded to a player like yours it would be even better since it was designed to be used with earplugs.
