Just a thought, is it possible to screw up a cell phone when it sets close to or on a tank bag magnet. Not so much the data but maybe the screen? Any thoughts or hands on data on this?

I have not had any problems with mine, and the belt holster I use has a magnet in the flap to hold it closed.
my old tank bag had some pretty strong magnets, my new one has a phone pouch on top so the phone is not so close.
LCD displays are not affected by magnets as a chip switches on the differant pixles and colors.
old cathode ray TV's use a comb filter that is metal and magnets near them would screw with the electrom beam.
I have a motorola razr XX
it is good to have a holster or pouch to put them in as rattling around loose is not good for them.

Don't think it has bothered my phone. I put my phone in the bag, only when I run it to the powerpoint for charging. But I think I might have messed up a gas card that got close to the bag. Now it no worky.

I try to keep the phone in the pocket that's on the flap/lid of the tank bag but I've had it riding around in the bottom from time to time and so far no ill effect from the magnets.

Nah, a magnet won't hurt your cell phone. The storage on a cell phone isn't magnetic in nature - it's solid-state flash memory. Traditional hard drives in your computer, however, do use magnetic storage, which is why you shouldn't put a magnet near them ...

I believe it's possible to affect the display of a phone with a magnet.
I've put my Razr in my Cortech mini tank bag and have no issues what so ever.

Not a problem, I keep my cameras and phone in the tank bag when traveling.

No problem with the cell phone. However, if you have a mechanical watch do not put it in there. It will get magnetized and then you will need to send it out to be de-magnetized. Yes, I magnetized my Submariner.

That's something I've never figured out about hard drives. A strong enough magnet near the HD can cause data loss, but if you take one apart you'll find some of the strongest magnets on earth for their size. They surround the armature of the drive head mechanism, and if you take one out and stick it to a ferrous surface you'll have to pry it loose to remove it (after you bandage your finger). :eek2:

I've always thrown my phone and camera in my tank bag without worry. Never had a problem with either.

I've never had a problem with phones, cameras, watches, credit cards, hand guns, or anything else. And usually all of those things are in my tank bag during every ride.;-)
Let me add Ipod to that list as well. Still no problems.
