Help! My wife is radioactive!! :eek2:

Sorry, I need a little humor about now. Here's the real story.....

My wife Tina is known by many of you and is in need of your prayers.

Tina has been fighting a hyper thyroid condition for 2 years now. It is still giving her lots of problems. She decided to take the radioactive iodine treatment which basically kills her thyroid and leaves it in place.

She took her one and only radioactive iodine pill today. She has been off her thyroid meds due to all the pre iodine testing that had to be done. This has made her quite ill over the past week or so.

This method is less invasive than surgery to remove the gland itself. It will take a few months to completely stop the thyroid, but she should be on her way to some relief. Her specialist will start ASAP with replacements as her thyroid hormone levels drop. She should be able to return to work Monday and hopefully back to feeling well again.

This thyroid problem has really cut into her ability to enjoy life as she should. We have high hopes for this treatment and after study have found out that it is safe and also that thyroid hormone replacement works for the long term with little to no issues.

If you could, please add her to your prayers for a while.

If its of any good to know my mom had the same situation 20 years ago and has had no prolonged problem from this treatment

Jack - my wife had this done a few years ago and is doing very well now (she completed a 1/2 marathon this past year). Just ensure that your wife is diligent concerning her thyroid hormone replacement dosage and always has a supply!

Tina's a strong woman and I have no doubt she'll come through this and be even stronger. I bet you could use a hug too right about now, Jack. <<HUG>>

Thanks everyone.

She is doing so so. She is having to take potassium iodine over the weekend and it has some side effects that are making her ill right now.

Her attitude is good(never seen it any other way), and all is on schedule for now.

I have been out playing all day today. She told me to go and have some fun since there nothing I can really do except hang out here with her. She is looking forward to having a normal life again and sends thanks for the prayers and good stuff sent her way.

I appreciate your prayers and your post in the thread. It is comforting and truly does help.


It's easier when others help you carry a burden. Thanks.

Aw, rats, I didn't know anything about this when I saw you this weekend in Huntsville. :-(

Update

Tina returned to work today. She had a rough weekend, but is beginning to feel better. She is back on her PTU medicine and that will help her as her thyroid is still hyper until the iodine begins to work. She will work with doctor to adjust meds as the thyroid slows.
