Anyone tried one with their A570/A590 IS?

We recently picked up a Powershot and this looks like a good accessory for $30. The Amazon reviews look favorable too with the exception of a bit of vignetting at the bottom of the focal length but that shouldn't be much of an issue since the converter would go on for long shots.

You can also try Lensmate (http://www.lensmateonline.com/). I've used their product several times for my Powershot IS3.

I had an Opteka wide converter for my CP5700, but it was soft and heavily distorted. I later switched to a Raynox, MUCH better optical quality, but double the price.

One thing to consider.. the A570 has an optical viewfinder. My point is that when using the tele converter the image in the viewfinder will not be true. You will be locked into using the LCD to compose the shot.

You're absolutely right about the viewfinder. Actually, I'm finding that's the Achilles heel of this camera. The viewfinder is rather dumb. It doesn't frame the image nor does it show anything that's going on like focus spot or shutter speed and f-stop settings like an SLR would. At least I haven't found how to get it to do anything but be a window.

My transition from 35mm has been slow and reluctant. :huh2:

Turns out Lensmate and Raynox don't support the consumer level p&s Canons, only the next level up. My choices for converters appear to be limited to the Canon accessories (exce$$ories?) or the Opteka.
