Here are a couple of reviews:
From the $110 Hamburger (http://www.100dollarhamburger.com/t74.html) site
Texas Monthly was correct ... Louie Mueller's BBQ in Taylor, Texas is one of the three best in the state. Awesome food. Get there early, like before 12:00 on Saturday or the food may be sold out and the place will close. If you miss out, just walk a block to Mikeska's and pig out. Excellent as well, but not prone to sell-out like Mueller's.

The Austin Chronicle - Central Texas BBQ Dynasties (http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2001-11-09/food_set6.html)

I'm going to give it a good ol boy try too. Route may be north of Leander, around Lake Georgetown, run east of Granger and back into Taylor.

Can't think of any dirt roads along the way Rusty.

Yeah, but just past Taylor in Thorndale is one of the Austin dirt bike club leases. I may ride out there in the morning and find some mud them meet you all for bbq. In motocross gear even :-D

Or I may try and ride some of the new TX 130, Wille Nelson Turnpike :-)

I forget the name of the place on 290. Southside is in Eglin, near the downtown section near the railroad tracks. It's been a very long time since I've been there, but the hotgut used to be the best I tell you.

Southside Market is right as you get into Elgin from Austin. Mijers (spelling?) is further in town, where the overpass is. Both are supposed to be good. Haven't tried either.

Wow! It's been way too long since I was out there. Both places are on 290, Southside is on the west end of town near 95n (to Taylor), Meyer's is on the east side of town near 95s (to Bastrop).

I need to get out more.

Put me down as a definite maybe...since it's only 2 miles down the road. They do have some of the best ribs I've had in this area, just don't care for their sauce.

After further investigation, I'll have to miss this one..step-son graduating from college at 9:30 that Saturday in San Marcos.

Regarding the routes...

The North side riders can have some sweeper fun by heading down 79 until you hit FM 1660 South, take that to 95, go south on 95 until you hit FM 1466, take a left on 1466 and keep going until you hit FM 619, turning left onto it and then when you hit 79 again take whichever way you like into Taylor itself. The best parts of that route are FM 1660 and on 619 when it gets close to 79.

As for the south riders, I'm not sure of the exact route you mapped out (it doesn't give any road names for the ones highlighted), but I'd try FM 969 east and turn left onto FM 1704 north, when you get to Elgin head up 95 until you get to, like I suggested in the north side riders' route, get to FM 1466 and turn right on it and keep going until you hit 619 and turn left on it. Once again, when you get to 79 choose which way you'd like to get into Taylor. The best parts of that route are the sweepers on 969 close to Austin, then the sweepers on 619 close to 79.

Those routes have some nice sweepers to them, but are somewhat out of the way. But, hey, if we were worried about going out of our way we wouldn't be riders, right?

I'd love to join ya'll but I can't. That's too bad, it being so close to home and all. You guys have fun.

Put me down as a maybe. I'm about 10 miles due west of Taylor on 79, I should be able to make it in 30-45 minutes.

Hints for folks coming in from the north/west:

* 1660 is nice from 29 to Rice's Crossing. I'm liking the sweepers north of Hutto lately.

* 29 is fun between Georgetown and 95; turning south on 95 off of 29 will get you to Taylor.

A nice roundabout way to Taylor from Taco Cabana would be:

* 1431 east to Parmer Ln (734), turn right
* First light south on Parmer is Brushy Creek Rd., turn left
* Go east, continuing through the 4-way stop, you're now on Hairy Man Rd. A few hundred yards after the repaved (sweet, clean blacktop) begins, note that there's a slightly tricky rising left over a bridge.
* Go to Sam Bass Rd. (next 4-way stop), turn right
* This becomes highway 79, continue east past I-35, H.E.B. and the car washes.
* About a 1/2 mile later or so, turn left onto 1460. There's a field with construction on your left, and an apt. complex on your right at that turn.
* Take 1460 north up to Chandler Rd./114 (erm, 1431 extended eastward ;-)), turn right onto the new portion.
* Head east on Chandler/114 (mmmmm, new pavement, slight sweepers, minimal traffic... ;-)) until it T's at 110. Turn left.
* Head north, until you get to a funky intersection just past Matthew Ln. Bear right and then immediate right onto 105.
* Head east on 105 until it T's at 100. Turn left.
* Head north on 100. You'll come to what looks like a T, go right, then a few hundred yards later, turn left to stay on 100.
* About a mile after the turns just mentioned, you descend into a blind right, then blind left across a creek.
* After the creek crossing, you come to a T, turn either way to get to 29 (turning right puts you on gravelly road for about 100 yards, but you're close to the river; uberhawk's been right there (http://homepage.mac.com/tschoepe/.Pictures/Motorcycles/DRZriver.jpg)).
* Turn right on to 29. Enjoy accelerating through that first sweeper. :-P
* Head east on 29 about 3 miles, turn right on to 1660 at Jonah.
* Head south on 1660 to Hutto. Enjoy the sweepers.
* At the light in Hutto, turn left on to 79.
* If you wish to follow El Guapo's 4/28 directions, above, to increase the roundaboutedness of the trip, head east on 79 a few hundred yards, and turn right on to 1660.
* Otherwise, head east on 79, bopping into Taylor.

Hope that makes some sense. You can follow this route from Parmer and Brushy Creek if you click here (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&formtype=address& searchtype=address&cat=&address=&city=round%20rock &state=tx&zipcode=), click on the first r in Cedar Park, and zoom in a bit.

This is basically my head-clearing route, when I have but a short time to get away from It All.

Oh boy, last minute change in schedule. My daughter's volleyball match was cancelled (forfeit by the other team), so my wife can fill in at the church event (I was going to cover for her before). So, if the weather looks favorable, I may make this. When are we meeting at the Taco Cabana? I see the time for meeting in Taylor. I'm still not a definite, but I may hop up in the morning and swap the front sprocket for some street riding.

Whoa, if you take Parmer north to 29 you will find that it turns into a nice little county road with an easy crossing of the San Gabriel river. There is no problem with that crossing being slippery. I do it on the road bicycle.

Oh boy, last minute change in schedule.

10:15 or so I'd imagine. If you go, want to meet on Parmer/Avery?

Yeah, I do that route on my road bike as well. I like those routes up that way. Cross 29 out towards Florance. It's where I've been doing most of my motorcycle riding too.

I'll check in tomorrow morning. 10-10:15 at Parmer and Avery Ranch would be good. If the weather allows, I will try to get in some miles on the bike first. Not alot, but I only got in 10 miles today. If it's raining, then it will be the wind trainer in the evening. Yuck.

Hmmm, I don't think there is anyone else on my street that I could meet with

I'll at least make an appearance for a bit, not sure if it will be with family or without. We were supposed to be packed for a week in Padre (it's business, really - the Region 1 Tech Fair) and we have yet to really start :-|

But I'll at least scoot by and say howdy. Before a 6 hour drive with two "terrible twos"

Well, it's 9:30am and I haven't swapped out my front sprocket yet. Should have time though. David, you can give me a call at 680-4178 (my mobile) if you still want to meet. I looked at routes over there and it looks like we could zig zag along north of 79. Still kind of straight. I'm going to get out on the DRZ, but I'm not wanting to go straight out 79.

At 5am I figured today was turning into a pie run day. Turned out to be a great day to get on the road. Timing was perfect to beat the crowd too. Rusty and I were making a nice run out but ended up jumping on 79 to save time. :-(

Brisket was a little tough and didn't have much flavor. Been a long time since I've been there but they are normally much better. We get our Thanksgiving turkey from these guys.

The BBQ sauce is more what I remember from many of the BBQ places several years ago. Not many had the sweet sauce like is common now.

Nice to see you guys, enjoyed the talk on track bikes, GPS, bicycling etc.

Went north of Taylor on my way home and found some of those nice 90 degree 15mph turns.

We just made it back home. We ended up making the BMOA Rallye in New Ulm. There were a bunch of nice and some not so nice bikes that looked original there. On the way home we stopped at an Italian restaurant on the square in La Grange. It was very good, they have been open since November and have another location Round Top.

The wife has been upgraded from "Tin Foil Butt" to "Heavy Duty Tin Foil Butt" since we did a little over 250 miles today. Boy am I hearing about it

I was not very impressed by Muellers, maybe next time a Taylor stop comes up we should try Mikeska's.

Be looking for next months announcement of Blacks BBQ in Lockhart. Hope to see everyone there.

Glad I'm not the only one that was unimpressed with the BBQ. Wish we had the chance to wander more on the way out, but David and I talked to much as we stood by my garage. Oh well, it was fun showing my Wing parts collection.

Rob, thanks for letting me follow along on the way back towards RR. After I left you, I wandered over to my chuch to meet up with my wife. After a couple of hours there, I headed home and did a big double take going by the RR High baseball field when I saw a bike just like yours. Almost hurt my neck looking to see if you were there or it was just another the same as yours. Must have been someone else since you headed in for work.

Good seeing you all, and Daryl, it was nice to finally meet you.

I guess I'm not too picky on the brisket, lol (yeah, it had some fat in it, but...).

That wasn't me up in Round Rock, I headed down to a coffee place on Lake Austin to work on my flyer (now printing said flyer at a blazing 1 page-per-minute on my inkjet).

See y'all at EZ's on Tuesday.
