View Full Version : Clear Coating Stainless Steel
Todays projects on the new to me Connie included repainting the crossbar on the Helibars where they got dinged up from keys and rusted as well as stripping the black gloss paint off the throttlemeister bar ends because they were chipped and peeling. Lesson learned - anything strong enough to strip paint warrants wearing gloves.
The question is "What should I use to clear coat em if I want to leave them the natural color?" Rustoleum mentions a clear coating to use over their paints, but I can't imagine it would stick to polished stainless any better than the paint that came on them. Powder coating in clear sounds expensive. Any suggestions?

1. What are those blue things on the grips?
2. How do you like the Throttlemeister? I need something and don't know whether to spend the $ on these or go with a Vista Cruise setup.
3. Sorry, but I don't have the answers to your questions.
:-?

Those are the grips - Pro Grip gel grips. The color matches a lot better than the photo suggests. The gel grips that came installed rubbed on the switch housing preventing the throttle from closing automatically.

Evidently, I'm missing an o-ring piece to make it work. He just used it as heavy duty bar ends (like Murph's) to cut vibrations. The vista cruise was the dorky looking outrigger type and took up too much of the grip for me.

Maybe the other model that mounts between the grip and housing would be more satisfactory.

No problem.

Kurt ,
Bring them to me And I will Passivate them. Paint will stick then. I recommend clear coat alloy wheel paint.I have an empty can but do not remember the name.I will check Monday at work.
I appreciate it leeroy, but after investigating at the throttlemeister site, it appears they don't paint them at all any more. I'll bet the adhesion problem was the reason. I'm just going to leave then bare for the time being and see what happens. Now if I can get the parts to make it work. I can't imagine why someone would disable it in favor of a Vista Cruise.

Keith, I'm curious about this "passivate" that you speak of - what is it, what does it involve?
