View Full Version : Lone Star BMW open house
Last Saturday I went to Lone Star in Austin to see the three new BMW bikes. I have always ridden BMW GS's, but this new K1200S could definitely change that. Oh my.

Also, I often see another GS rider, Hank, when I am there.
Here is his bike.

And here is his bike's odometer. Everytime I see his bike I take a photo of the odometer. Yep, he rides alot.

Wait, is that 329,250 or 32,925.0?
If it's the first like I think it is, that man deserves a huge round of applause!

Yes, it's 329,250 miles. It's is a 1995 R1100GS that he often rides to Mexico on. He smiles and says that he plans on riding it until its worn out.

I'd love to know what kind of maintanence and repairs he's done.
Last Saturday he said that he has replaced the driveshaft, clutch and
head gaskets. Replaced the transmission bearings at 290K. The
engine bearings, valves and rings are the original ones. He uses Mobil-1, and just rides and rides.

:tab That is because you will have replaced darn near every wearable part on the bike several times over by the time you hit that kind of mileage  I love my GS, but I swear it consumes things like a beast! My VFR needed nothing but new tires, brake pads, oil changes, air filter cleaning, and the occasional set of spark plugs. I just recently found out that the throttle cables on my GS are supposed to be replaced every 18K miles!! Well, I am at 38K and am just now getting them changed because they are dragging so bad the pull on the throttle is killing my right hand. After 60K on the VFR, it still felt like new. Bland and characterless can be nice at times ;-)
Adios,

GSer,
Did you have the opportunity to pay proper respects to the Lone Star Moto-Goddess? ;-)

There were so many people running around that I didn't get to say more than "Hi" to her. Were you at Lone Star last Saturday? I live in Houston, but go to L.S. for service. They are rebuilding carbs. for me now.

Nope, was enjoying looking around at hill country property around Burnet.
I really like Lone Star. I wish I could afford to buy more than just gear from 'em, if only to support their wonderful attitude...
