New Ride To Work Day

The annual RTW Day moves to the ‘third Monday in June.’ The next Ride to Work Day is MONDAY, JUNE 15, 2009. It is the 18th annual Ride to Work Day.

Press Release: http://www.ridetowork.org/files/pressrelease/rtw20081124.pdf

Reasons for an earlier annual Ride to Work Day include:
*The new day is not as hot in most northern hemisphere areas, and not as cold in most southern hemisphere areas. June weather is more favorable worldwide.
*The new day provides an increased opportunity for more riders to Ride to Work. Many workplaces close for summer holiday in July - especially in Europe.
*A Monday event encourages motorcycle and scooter commuting to continue during the entire week.
*Positive media exposure will increase. Sundays are slower ‘news days’ so there will be more coverage like this: “Look for more motorcycles on your commute tomorrow, as Monday is the annual Ride to Work day...”
*The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) has endorsed this day, and is promoting the ‘Third Monday in June’ worldwide as the annual Ride to Work Day.

Oh not so. Just bumped the original post, (bad karma on road trip), look at last entry.
Not really a bad situation, may end up with the proverbial silver lining ;-)

Yes, but for some of us that really use our bikes for transportation instead of just play toys, everyday really is ride to work day.

There are many people where I work that have never seen anything other than a bike in my parking space at work.

I have looked and did not find a posting related to this.

June 15, 2009 is the Ride to Work date this year. :rider:

I know, I know.....there shouldn't need to be a special date to do such. But the organization does exist so I figured I would post.

Wonder how many news agencies will cover this?

Does this mean I wasnt supposed to ride to work today?

I doubt it will get any media coverage though, although it is a good idea.

I rode my wife's MP3 to work last year on RTWD (just to be different).

Maybe I'll do it again this year... :ponder:

Wow, someone was being very proactive.

I did a search......of course I never in my wildest dreams would have thought to look back to June 2008.

Thanks for finding the missing thread Dave.

I don't have any work that day!! Or the next 70 days for that matter. I rode about 180 of the 190 days of work this year. That will have to do.

Do-able to me. That'll be the Monday after RoT.. four days of riding! What's one more day??

b'sides, I ride to work almost every day I can barring bad weather or other errands which require a car. Usually 2-3 days a week minimum.

I'm so jealous right now. 2 months of riding and playing, seeing things you've never seen, meeting people you've never met... I need an adventure.

Same here...well, except for yesterday. Weather was iffy, I was in a bad mood and the truck hadn't been started in several weeks so it needed a drive. Sucked.

I've considered a trickle charger for my cage, but then I'm afraid I'd drive it so infrequently the gas would separate.

I agree with XoZe. If I get a job by then I can ride to work.

It sounds like you might get to ride to work after all.

And at the other end of the spectrum, I'd have to come out of retirement to ride to work & I just might do it now that the official date is no longer the 3rd wed in July- ordinarily THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR!

bump for a reminder

And for those that already commute on their scoot...
spread the word around at your workplace!

Encourage others to commute by moto. The more bikes we get on the road on a regular basis, the greater the awareness.
