It didn't take long for the doom and gloom in the economic world to affect racing. This news just came down today.

AutoSport.com - Honda confirm immediate F1 pull out (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72322)

...and not just F1
AutoSport.com - Audi scraps LMS programme (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72314)
AutoSport.com - Audi pulls out of ALMS as well (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72333)

with the US racing series in a state of flux with AMA/DMG and the manufacturers at odds and the possibility that GM, Ford and Chrysler could pull out of Nascar, the times are changing.

Imagine NASCAR without the big three to provide stickers for their race cars! KIA and Hyundai would rule!

If the big three pull out of nascar, that would leave toyota.
who would all the red neck root for?
I think we would see nascar take a serious dive

F1 is going to single powerplant, too. Cosworth got the nod. Can you imaging A prancing horse with a Cosworth mill under the bonnet? Nah, never happen. I suspect Ferrari and others will appeal and we'll see 2, maybe 3 powerplants in F1 by '10.

Well, there was a time that Cosworth engines made up most of the F1 grid. My understanding is other teams will be able to build their own but the Cosworth will be the benchmark and the others will not be allowed to perform better than the Cosworth. I still think they need to somewhat go back to the rules of the 70's which allowed customer chassis and engine manufacturers. A Lola or Reynard chassis with development costs spread around many different teams with Cosworth (or other) power could help bring F1 to more of a competitive balance like the sport had in the 70-80's. To expect to slash costs while maintaining that each team remains a "constructor" is a bit absurd. To make a spec series akin to GP2 is ridiculous as well, there has to be something in between that could work.
