Howdy,
:tab It's time for me to change the chain and sprockets on my 01 VFR. It's also due for an oil change and just a good general going over and cleaning. I am planning on doing all this on Saturday 7/19 starting around 10:00am. If anyone needs to work on their bikes and would like to show up, bring it on! If you have a shop manual for your bike, please bring it. I have one for the 98-01 model VFR's.
:tab In the past people had parts, tires, etc,... drop shipped directly to my place. They brought the smaller stuff with them on the bike. I have tire changing equipment, an air compressor, a chain breaker and riveter, and enough tools to do most everything except get into the engines.
:tab Last time we worked until about 1:30-2:00pm and broke for a BBQ lunch. Most folks finished up between 3:00-5:00pm. Those that stayed until everyone was done rode down to King's Cafe for dinner. Quite a few folks showed up during the day to just hang out. That's cool too if you want to come by and visit or help out. The extra hands were very useful last time
:tab We are at:

Shannon's new student conference is from the 17th-18th, and I believe she has to work on the 19th, so I may be able to head down there and lend a wrenching hand. I'll let you know as we get closer to next weekend. :)

Howdy,
:tab Well my parts are on the way. New chain and sprockets as well as some additional wheel weights. At the last tire change I realized I was a weight or two short :|
:tab By the way, anyone from out of town that is interested in attending is welcome to crash here Friday and Saturday nights if you give us some advance notice. I've got a spare room with a queen bed, several queen air mattresses, and double fouton.

Scott, just a tip on tire balancing. Check the balance on the bare rim before mounting the new tire on it. Mark the heavy spot, install the new tire with the dot at the mark you put on the rim. This method eliminates the need for a lot of wieght.
In fact I just finished up putting new shoes on the GPZ a few minutes ago. The front needed no weight and the rear took a quarter of what it previously had on it.
Right now I'm pretty much up on all my maintenance. However, I may just come out to visit and lend a bit of moral support.

Hey Chris,
:tab I just mounted a set of the new Pilot Road fronts. I coud not find anything that looked like the traditional dot :-? So I just stuck them on and balanced them. It did not take lots of weight, I just needed two of the small weights and only and one small and one large so it took a little extra effort. All the other brands I have used have had the dot you mention, I just always put it at the stem. I never balanced the rim alone. I can see how that might help though. Nice tip. You are welcome to come up, right now I think you may be the only person coming hehe, oh... and the other Chris as well ;-) Guess I should post a note over at the HSN site.

I mounted a set of these last month and was puzzled by the same thing. "Where's the dot"!?
I was also surprised to fing out they were manufactured in Spain. Spain?
They seem to ride well, but they make more noise than the Metzlers I had before.

I am too, I just need to work on maintaining my speed. I just installed the Vista Cruise last weekend and it seems to work pretty well.
Scott, I may just bring some wax and wheel polish and clean my bike while I'm there since my maintenance is pretty much up to snuff. All I really need to do is wipe the chain down with some WD-40 and she's good to go. I love owning a Honda! :-D

Hanging out is fine. Usually someone will need an extra hand so a few extra folks is a good thing. Hmm... wonder if I park Beth's bike next to Chris's if her rims might mysteriously get shinier?

I finally found a set of radials that will fit the Dinosaur! "Pirelli Diablo GTS" Supposedly a sport touring radial. Should be a nice improvement over my worn out/squared up Avons.... The bad news is that the 16" is discontinued.... so even if I like them, it's probably the one and only time for this tire combo. I think I am going to have them put on by the local stealer.. er... I mean dealer. Won't make it for the maintinance day, but I'll see you next Friday for the newbie ride. WooHooo!
