View Full Version : Gauging Interest in a Photo Class

Alrighty then....the photography sub forum has become quite active as of late and there seem to be quite a few folks who have questions on how to use their camera, compose and expose photos properly so I have talked Sharkey into helping me teach a one day photo class on just those subjects...if there is enough interest.
The class would be held on a Saturday (not the last Saturday of course) in May in Irving. The classroom portion would run from 9am to 3pm followed by a trip to either the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens or the Fort Worth Zoo (location will be determined by popular demand) to practice your new found skills....or you can go home and relax, your choice.
As much as I would love to give the class for free, I can't as I have to pay the hall rental fee (class will be held at the IPA Hall) so it would be $20 per person with anything extra after renting the hall and a projector (unless someone has one we can borrow) going to TM for upkeep of the site....Sharkey and I have no desire to make any money off of this, we just want to share what we have learned over the years with others.
So..there ya go, let me know what you think por favor.

I am interested & $20 is reasonable for this. Only problem may be my May schedule - will have to see on that one...
Lunch provided? :-P

I am IN!
I have a couple of projectors to chose from, and can bring one with me. No need to rent one. That is unless it is not a requirement from the hall.

My curiosity is piqued.
You should start an email list for those interested. May is a long ways away. Folks like me will forget about this almost as soon as...
...
What was this thread about again?

Possibly, depending on schedule. That is my work weekend but I am at the IAAI training conference all week and should be off Sat and Sun.

OK...I know May 2nd is out, that is the day/night of the spring Irving Police Association Party....so would the third Saturday April 11th work better for everyone?

That is the Saturday before Easter (4/12) - may affect some folks - but it would work for me. Prefer it over a date in May.

I'd love to be in on this. April is completely booked for me, my wife and are are thinking about making a trip up there to visit her family in may, so if this is the same weekend I may be able to swing it.
edit: I should have read the first post better. don't know if I can swing a full day away form family

Should be fun. Bring your camera and manual. PnS, DSlr, or eek, dare I say a film camera. Like Scott said, we'll cover some of the basics such as exposure and the relationship of shutter speed and aperature, composition, posing, directional lighting, and hopefully answer specific questions you might have.
Let me know date. I know I have 2 schools scheduled that month but can't remember when until I get into the office.

Again,
Start an email list. I am very willing to take an all day class. Heck, I'm planning on asking for the day off of work and take a day of PTO.
As far as taking time away from the family...:flip:

Hmmmm... if I only have a point and shoot, would this class be a waste for me? Or would most of the class be for the higher end cameras?

I think it would be worth your time. Most of the point and shoot cameras have many of the same features as the DLSR's. The basics still apply.

Here is the final photo class thread with details: http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?p=573199#post573199
And yes, if you have a point and shoot, bring it....you can still use it and learn.
