There's a family day at Goertz Ranch. They just had the STORM race there a couple weeks ago and from what I hear, the trails are pretty fun.

The fam and I will be there with the DR and GT.

Goertz is near Bastrop of of HWY 20. I'll post directions when I find some.

This will be some tight trail riding. I rode the course they did at last year's family day. I loved the course, but I had only a few months of dirt experience at the time. Had a few pucker moments.

I've been debating where to do this with the family or the club lease that is right next door that day. The club lease is easier to ride and my daughter is still learning to use the clutch on her xr100.

We could do something like hitting the family day, then switching over to Rusty's ranch (club lease) later. This would be good for both my daughter and Lupita since there is plenty of open area to ride, plus fewer other bikes. Also, Scott, you would be able to make it around on the KLR too. At Goertz ranch I would suggest a lap on a smaller bike to see what it looks like first. I don't know at this point if my son will be along or not. If not, I can haul his bike along.

Sounds like a good idea.

I've got access to a 5x8 trailer now so I'll be able to take along another bike if needed.

Now, only if I can get the Moose bark busters on my Moose handlebars. :-| You'd think they'd have that figured out at the factory. :-?

Alas... the KLR will have gone home by then :tears: And I have not connived a way to get me a dirt bike just yet

Aha! Then a good ride on someone else's bike is what you need to convince yourself, right? Or is it that your wife needs a ride on an easy to ride dirt bike to be convinced?

I just checked the calendar and my daughter has a volleyball match on the 15th, so she won't be there. That means I can bring the xr100 along for someone to ride. I will check with my son to see if he is riding with me on the 15th at Goertz or the 30th at Crooked Creek. Depending on his answer, I may have his crf230 as an extra bike too.

We didn't race the Goertz race this year but we heard from the others that did. The track was tight is some areas and then it got real tight and technical. No one spoke of any other areas of the track so don't know what the rest of the track was like.

Click here (http://www.storm-racing.org/flyers/2005/round7amsa.pdf) for the STORM Flyer with the directions to Goertz Ranch.

Okay, I talked to the boy and he wants to ride Crooked Creek on the 30th. So I will have the crf230 along for the 15th. We can coordinate closer to then about bikes and gear.

Hemibee - thanks for linking the flyer. I didn't think of that when I was looking for directions. I thought they might have a web site...but don't.

WB - Sounds good. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I've got a buddy up in Dallas with a DR350, maybe I can talk him into going to Crooked Creek. The more the merrier!!

Be aware that if we get heavy rain out that way the Family day will be rescheduled. Since there is rain in the weekend forecast for this area this is a real possibility. I will post here as soon as I hear if it is postponed.

Just got the word that it is still on. Tourmeister, should I bring an extra bike? Right now I'm only planning on bring one, but all of them are up and running. I'll check in before I head out in the morning.

:tab Well, as much as I really want to get out there, it just isn't gonna work out this weekend :-| Too much stuff to catch up on around the house and we are keeping my nephew for the day while my folks are gone (they are raising him). They have done some baby sitting for us and will keeping Sarah for the Memorial Day weekend so we can go to Arkansas, so I owe them ;-) I hope the weather holds for you guys and you have a great time! Take pics!

Man, whose bright idea was it to name it Hwy 20? Had me thinking "Hey, I don't live far from a lot of (Interstate) Hwy 20..."

:-(

Adios,

Pictures? Thanks for the reminder, I hadn't grabbed the camera yet. As far as you coming out, it is a relief in ways. I realized last night that it has been a very long time since it has just been me hauling only one bike. It will be nice to not need to hook up the trailer. Don't take that as I'm glad you aren't coming, though. I was looking forward to the chance to finally meet you. This just simplifies my day.

Okay, quick report. Good time was had by all. The place was green and there were big trees in the parking area so you were shaded in between loops. Some rain the day before and that kept the dust down and the sand firm, but there weren't many mud puddles.

Here is part of the area we parked

And here is one of the creek beds we rode along. I'm about 20 feet above it, looking as the riders come down it.

Irondawg and I got in four loops. The first was the longest, but they closed off a harder area because of some mud (or a wedding, I didn't hear for sure why). There was a neat dip with a couple of roots at the top coming out. Definite air time, but the trail hooked to the left so you had to give it enough gas to make it up, but not miss the corner. I never went down, but did sing soprano briefly when I came forward on the tank. Oh yeah, there was an open section that zigzagged through a pasture. As we past 20 yards away from a tree, someone had cut close to it and knocked a dead branch out towards the path. I went close to it, but chose to ignore it thinking that it didn't stick up high enough to be a problem. Actually caught the top of my foot at about 20 mph. I looked back and it was off the trail. Irondawg thought I did it on purpose and was impressed that I knocked it clean out of the way. It hurt initially, then went away. Didn't bother me again until I took my shoes off later. Nice bruise.

Lupita zipped around the field on the DT80 and beeped the horn at Vanessa and Irondawg each time she came by. I think she had a more fun this time than the last couple outings. She found someone that could speak spanish and she got to visit some. I always feel bad because I've forgotten so much of the spanish I once learned that we really can't talk much. Vanessa is a happy kid and the 2-strokes didn't seem to bother her much this time. She seems to like it when you cover her ears when they get loud.

Anyway. It was a good day, good weather, only a few love bugs. Glad I got to ride the light CRF instead of the DRZ, but I wouldn't be as sore today though. Cadilac suspension on that DRZ is nice sometimes. There were some other folks taking pictures on the trail. When they get posted on the TON I will snag a couple with Irondawg and I so you all can see the trails. I was too busy riding to walk out with the camera.
