Simple game..... figure out where the picture of the bike was taken.... go there and snap a picture of your bike in the same spot. Post up your photo, and TAG you are it. Then you get to post a picture of your bike somewhere interesting and let others figure out where.

Simple one to get started...

This is popular on several other forums. Susan and I (mainly her scoot in the pics) played on the Modern Vespa forum for the Fort Worth area but nobody else wants to play. :-(

So, we'll probably try this one.

Except I have no idea where this is
(but I have a couple of ideas)

So for DFW are we limiting to those 2 counties or those towns?

Okay, someone remind me to check this thread once I'm at home and can see the pic. We need to give this one some legs. It'd be nice to have a game that doesn't involve how well you can monkey punch into Google.

 I'm confused - can you elaborate on the boundaries?

ed29
03-24-2009, 11:43 AM
The boundaries are open for common sense interpretation... The gulf coast is obviously not part of the DFW metro area, nor is Lake Texoma. I would consider Denton area to be DFW since north Dallas stretches that far north anyway. Any city or suburb or cow pasture that is near Dallas, Fort Worth or surrounding cities is fair game.

But first you gotta shoot your bike with the last pic feature in view. :trust:

This was as close as I could legally get to the sign in the above picture. Parking lot was roped off and the only way to get in there was down a sidewalk and wheelchair ramp. And there were some security looking folks giving me the evil eye, so I snapped my pic and was on my way. Hope it counts.

After taking those I noticed that since they were doing night track practice.... the southern two thirds of the day track was just sitting there.... ungated and inviting. A few of the racers were hitting some of the corners there, fooling around. So what is a KLR rider with boxes of stuff bolted to his bike to do??? Of course he must join them! The big heavy machine did alright at the conservative pace I was running her. The whoops were such fun that I cut some corners to come back around and do them twice. The dads and teenage MX riders were looking at me like they were seeing a martien or something. Gotta love being just a touch insane!

Yup, rebuilt in 1912 after a fire, it was the main office for the Swift Meat packing plant in the stockyards. It all closed after WW-II, then was the first Fort Worth location of The Old Spaghetti Warehouse. It is on East Exchange. The very first SpagW was in Dallas.

Different game - there are 2 running right now - DFW area and the whole state.

You can play in either one. ;-)

ed29
04-29-2009, 09:45 AM
Different thread... some folks out of the area wanted to play too, so they opened up the Texas Tag thread. Scoping this one for DFW kind of excludes the Houston, Austin, San Antonio, New Mexico folks. The trade off is that the tags are all within riding distance of the participants.

One other notable difference is that file photos are allowed here in the DFW thread, excluded in the Texas Tag one. If a tag matches a place you have a photo, and you have another suitable for being "it" jump in and play remote.

I finally found one (online). If the wind doesn't pick up too bad by the time I get off work tonight (and the rain doesn't come back), I'm going to try to get out there and get in on the game.

Well, I spoke to soon. The wind wasn't a problem, the rain wasn't a problem. The wife making plans for me without warning me, now THAT was a problem. If no one gets it before me, maybe I'll get a chance to get it this weekend. That'll give me more time to figured out a suitable follow up shot. Really wish I knew more interesting spots around the area.

I have the bike and the camera, but not the clue of where it's at. How about some more clues for the slow kid in the class.

Try a google search on the plaque at the bottom of the horse. Maybe even google image.

The ugly socks tip is for the town.

Thanks for the help.

I think my biggest problem is that morgans images are always show up as red X's for me. The only image I have to go off of is the one from google maps jasen posted the other day and when I zoom in close enough to read the plaque, it's way too pixelized to even see if it has writing, let alone read it.

ackthpffth, since you can see images on my server, I hosted it for you. Here's a link.

Good luck, and with a little creative searching you can find it on google. I found this one easier on an actual google web search than an image search though.

The ugly socks tip is for the town.

I think I found the location but no clue on the clues!

I may be too late - maybe it will be gotten at lunch today...

Those are a little misleading since it's not actually in that town, but just east of it.

Those are a little misleading since it's not actually in that town, but just east of it.Unless you google it. When you google it, the address given matches with the clues. However, if you look at the map and switch to street view, it shows the address as the town next to it. Odd stuff.

I think it's because the "town" it's in isn't really exactly a real REAL town, but it's a town that's a part of another town... you know how that incorporation crud goes. But with that plaque name, google puts you right on top of the statues.

John Turturro would be a real Fink if he went to this town.....

You don't need another 405 to see these 2 horses....

C'mon ackthpffth, where's the pics? Lunch is long over, and with where you live, you can definitely bring this game to the east side.

I can see it now, this game is going to look like a ping pong game. Bring it to the east side, west side guy comes and gets it and takes it back, then back to the east. Sounds like fun. Maybe we should make a new rule.

Well, I got the current picture but by the time I got back to this side of town my camera battery died. So, I'm gonna have to go get the new tag in the morning. Unless night pictures are allowed.

You got the tag, you post it as soon as you can and hope someone doesn't' beat you to it, I don't see the problem.

I dunno... It's just that all the pictures I've seen so far are in the daylight. There could be some rule that it has to be in the daylight.

Yup, if you got the current one then post it up. Heck, if you don't have a new tag to post until tomorrow or Sunday, well that is alright. The game will keep. Night shots, day shots, new shots, old shots.... all in good fun. I have a couple of shots I have picked up along te way for when it is my turn again.

Good job on finding that one and snagging it too!

Ninja Ninja Ninja Ninja Ninja Ninja Ninja..... :) Good on ya!

The clues...

Sweater and Socks - Argyle
John Turtouro - Acted in Barton Fink, and the actual address is Bartonsville, which is sorta part of Argyle
You don't need another 405 just to get these two... 405 + 2 is 407 and this is on FM407.
