Approximately 26000 on my 1990 GS500.
19000 on my 2000 SV650.
1100 and counting on my 03 V Strom.

Howdy,

Did you buy the GS500 new?

I bought my first bike, a red Suzuki GS500EL in April of 1990. I sold it ten years later and bought the SV.

About six months ago I bought a used 2002 GS500 (NOT "E"). I'm loving it, but I wish I could find an aftermarket windscreen that looks a little better than the one Suzuki sells. I've been told the windscreens and fairings that fit the GS500E will not work on the "non E" model. Anybody got any ideas? I can be e-mailed at texason@hotmail.com

I put about 10,000 miles on my 1985 VF500F in about 1.5 years and I've put about 2200 miles on my 1992 VFR since mid November. I wish there were more, but time and weather are starting to look better... :-D

It should still have a standard headlight. Most any generic windscreen made for a round headlight should fit it. Try Givi, National Cycle, etc

I got over 22,000 miles on the old Gixxer 1000 now and I bought her brand spanking new 17 months ago. I had more than my fair share on my trusty CBR900RR that was bought used in 1998 and I cannot remember how many miles I put on her. I think it was in the 54,000 mile range. Yep you guessed it, I love riding...

Current mileage, 41,500+ on Daytona 1200, from new (07/97), 7,500 on 97 900ss/sp. On other bikes; 38,000 on 91 FLSTF, 35,000 on 83 FXWG, 50K+ on 76 Honda CB550-4, and a few thousand spread out on either a 94 Low rider, 98 Triumph Trophy 900, Ducati 748, Ducati ST4, or Ducati M900s. Last bikes were either brief keepers or the wife's rides.
Yes I Do like to ride. Numbers would be higher if it weren't for a little thing called work. But then one does need to support one's habbits somehow.

I'll be the newbie here then. About a year ago I ran across a clean 82' XS650 Heritage Special. Picked it up and put about 2000 miles on her. Then about 3 months ago I bought a 01' SV650S (I could not resist the deal). All total I might have a little more than 5000 miles, but why fluff the #'s? The miles will come w/ time. Anyone who rides w/ me quickly will find out that I don't have a ego, but I don't think I should be disrepected b/c of being new. I don't think I am slow, but I don't push past my limits to impress anybody. 8) I have wanted a street bike as long as I can remember, and now that I have one I savor every moment & every minute w/ fellow riders. My favorite curve to get perfect is the learning curve

Good on you, kawi jm. :)

Your story parallels mine. I got an '81 Honda Sept. '01, put 3K on it over the course of 9 months. Fell for the aprilia, got it in June, coming up on 10K wondrous miles on it. So, if I read your post right, we're currently addicted at the rate of about 1Kmiles/month :) (mine are basically weekend day trips; hard to get away for anything extended).

I like your learning curve line...

:tab I don't dis folks because of their limited mileage, nor do I automatically respect anyone with big mileage numbers. However, with big miles usually comes some experiences that a low mileage rider probably hasn't encountered yet. To a small degree it is a good way to guage how "bad" someone has the riding bug, hehe. Of course, there may be riders that have it real bad but just can't get away from work and other non-riding committments to feed the bug. A shame.

:tab I did the poll more out of curiousity more than anything. Funny thing is, I never put my own mileage here in a post

:tab 92 Nighthawk 750, first bike in April 99. 11,000 miles nine months.

:tab 98 VFR 800, second bike in Jan 2000, 30K in 18 months, gave it to Beth and bought my 01 VFR 800. I've probably put another 10K on the bike since it became "hers" ;-) It is about to hit the 48K mark and go in the shop for its' service.

:tab Got the 01 VFR June 2001. Its in the shop right now for its 32K service.

:tab Both VFR's had 4 miles on the clock when we bought them.

:tab Beth started on a little used Virago XV535 Special in May 99. Sold it after putting 8500 miles on it in about 8 months.

:tab Her second bike was a used 99 Triumph Legend 900. Bought it in Feb 2000 right after I got the 98 VFR. She put about 10K on that one before selling it.

:tab Her third bike was a new 01 Suzuki SV650S. The bike rocks! Bought it Nov 2000, I think. Sold it in Sept. 2001 after I gave her the 98 VFR. She had about 9500 miles on it.

:tab I have no idea how many miles I have put on her bikes. But I have always ridden each of them quite a bit. The Virago was beautiful and hand a sweet sound. The Legend was a torque monster but a tad uncomfy. It would really haul on the backroads, much to the surprise of many sportbike riders that I chased on it. The SVS... well... there is just something elusive about that bike that makes it really really fun to ride, I just can't put my finger on it.

:tab We've both settled on the VFR's for now and will likely drive them until they rot out from under us. Although... I have recently been able to put some miles in the hill country on a BMW R1150S  And so has Beth. Her first comment when she got off the bike was, "I want one of these!" Get in line...

:tab You can see all of our bikes on my sfriday.com website in the PAST and PRESENT sections.

Don't get me wrong Scott there is always something to be learned from an experienced rider. I just have had some snive comments made to me esspecially when I was on the old Yamaha. Mostly acting like b/c I had a bike that topped out at 75 mph I was some sort of a lesser man? :angryfir: I think it is funny that they just get off on doing 130 in a straight line....I would much rather be doing 80 @ full lean :P

Hmmm...I've never kept track of my dirt bikes or when I was in high school on my 450 Nighthawk, but....

9k on the XR350 - made it street legal - combo dirt and street
49k on the Interceptor 500
26k on the Sprint in 14 months (RIP)
15k on the GS to date

Wow, that 99k!!

Hmm.... a SS1000s and I'm at 100k. And I've got a free weekend. How far is El Paso and back?

mlinkibikr

Garelli 50 ...... 200 miles
Yamaha 90 .... 4,000 miles
Honda XL175 ...12,000 miles
83 V45 Magna ... 45,000 miles
86 V65 Magna ... 20,000 miles
90 FJ1200 .... 53,000 miles
83 LeMans III ... 10,000 miles (my share and increasing)
98 VTR1000 ... 9,000 miles
98 VFR .... 1,500 miles (my share and current daily ride)

So let's see - that makes it about ... 154,700, mostly over the course of 20 years which is when I bought the first Magna - so that makes it only about 7,700 miles per year. That ain't much.

Dave.

Hmmm. I never really though about my total miles.

1976 Honda MT250 Elsinore - 31K

1979 Yamaha TT500 - 25K

1984 Suzuki GS1100E - 21K

1989 Kawasaki KLR650 - 29K

1999 Suzuki Bandit - 15K

1997 BMW R1100RT - 12K and counting

That puts me at about 133,000 miles. Sheez. Since I'm an old fart and have been street-legal for 20 years, that only averages to 6,650 miles per year. I've got some catching up to do!!! :)

Not very many miles here, but here's the chronology

1982 Kawa KZ 550 LTD, in pristine condition with 6500 miles, in storage since 91, bought it in march and put about 1500 miles on it before I sold it (wich I regret with all my heart now :( )

1997 Bandit 600s, bought it right after selling the Kawa, put about 3000 miles on it.

1992 CBR 600 F2, my first real sport bike, did a ton of mods and work on it, loved to death, rode it everywhere, put about 3500 miles before an old guy with a truck trashed it with me on top of it :tears:

and current : 2000 Kawa ZX-7R......very fast...almost scary but also comfy, to some extend taking in consideration it's a sports bike .

I had it for about three weeks now and put almost 2k miles so far, and many more to come.

next bike??? an SV, i heard so many good things about it, I want one, then maybe, just maybe, be on the track as a competitor and not as a spectator

I bought my '01 R1150gs in Nov. of 01. The first year I put about 5500 miles on it. I loved it, just no time. This year I have put about 12,000 on it. A good portion of that was on a solo trip to Seattle and back.
At least 43 of it was on the proverbial 42 miles of bad road in Big Bend National park. A jeep road supposedly rated one of the harder ones in the park. I figure I went back at least a mile over the route to help my compadres. Usually on foot though.

I accidently bought a y2k VFR800 to add to my yellow bike collection two weeks before Thanksgiving. I flew to El Paso and road it home. Including the side trip to Ft. Davis to spend the night, I have put about 800 miles on it since the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I am planning on riding to Austin this weekend to get some new tires mounted on it. I hope to add about half again as many miles doing that.

This is my recent history. I had an '87 K75S that I sold with about 34k on it about4 years ago. A '75 Honda 750F and a Honda 500T when I was in college. I don't remember how many miles I put on them, but I racked up over $300 in tickets on the 750 payable to TAMU...

The miles on my GS and Adv were mostly on the road. I ride hardpack dirt and some gravel roads, about 10% on the big bikes.
I have a R100PD for the dirt and had a KLR for a while. I enjoy the dirt roads in the hill country. Make it down there about 2 - 3 times per year.

Respect that ZX-6. I know some people think of the 600's as starter bikes, but they are serious machines. Tney can put you in a world of hurt just as fast and as bad as a GSXR-1000! Get thee to a trackday!! Lone Star Track Days (http://lonestartrackdays.com/) did a women only event for Mothers Day last year and it was a huge success. Track days will do more for your confidence and skill level than just about anything else. There is NO racing, you ride at whatever level you feel comfortable with and the instructors are willing and able to help you out. I highly recommend them (no association :-P )

OK, I just saw this thread and almost hate to post here 8-)

But since 1969, ahem.... I am guessing, oh, about 400K++. On 11 bikes. I got my M/C liscense on my 14th B-Day (7-11-69) and have had one bike or another ever since.

'69 Honda CL-90
'70 Bridgestone TMX-100
'70 Bridgestone GT-200
'70 Kawasaki H-1 (Mach III)
'74 Kawasaki CSR-650
'73 Yamaha 175 Enduro
'79 H/D XLCH 1000
'82 H/D FXRS Shovelhead
'98 Triumph Trophy 1200
'00 Triumph Sprint-ST (Black)
'00 Triumph Sprint-ST (Red)

And in response to Scott's comment on respecting a rider on how they ride vs. how long or how many miles they've ridden, I concur. It's really all about now, and how anyone handles now. Bad decisions only hurt, now. Good decisions make you an old rider. I'm just "lucky"

Over 255,000 miles with my present bike. Probably another 30,000+ with previous bikes.

50,000 miles on a R1100GSA. 16,000 on a R1150RTL. Before that, God only knows. Close to a zillion on trail bikes as a kid. :chug:

Wow! You have put 255,000 miles on the GS1100? You must really like the bike to have kept it that long. Kudos for not wrecking it along the way :-P

 It was wrecked once. He rebuilt it and painted it guardsman red (porsche red). It has been rebuilt twice (I think) too. It is currently an 1166cc 10.5 to 1 CR beast. Smoothbore carbs, HiPo cams, HD valve springs, HD studs, welded crank, top end oiler, and the list goes on and on....

His bike is still very streetable though. I rode it for a short time and was very impressed with how mild mannered the bike is in town. Twist the wick though, and you best be hangin' on.

Sorry about braggin for ya Hap, but that's one sweet machine you've got. I talk about it whenever anybody gives me lip about riding a bike thats old enough to drink. ;-)

No problem Tim, when it comes to smooth operation and long distance comfort, I always brag about your GS...wish it was in my garage! :-D

Looks like I'll finish out the year just shy of 12,000 miles. Previous to this year, I was about a 4-5,000 mile/year kinda guy, but this year the sport-touring bug really kicked in. Now that I have an appropriate ST'ing bike, I'm expecting to see my 2005 mileage double my 2004 mileage.

The 900 CR had 40,000 miles when I tore it down.
The R1150GS has 74,600 miles and still climbing
The Patrol only has KMs so I have 950KM but it is new and I haven't really had time to flog it.

Beginiing in 1968:

1964 Honda 90 12K ~2.5 years
1968 Honda 350 15K ~2 years
1972 Honda 450 26K ~5 years
1976 BMW R75/6 50K ~5 years

19.5-year break then beginning April 2000:

1999 BMW R1200C 72K ~4 yrs 4 months (bike was totaled in Aug '04)
1998 BMW R1100RT 45K and counting (purchased used in Nov '01)
2000 BMW R1200C 2340 and counting (purchased used in Oct '04)

Grand total ~222K in ~17 years of ownership.

Hey Valker! we have about the same yearly average--unless you look at just my last 5 years that average almost 24K/yr. I'm pretty sure that once you hit that retirement stage you will add up a lot of miles in a hurry though--old man  . :chug: Here's to the ride for us all.

Try Clearview screens...you can Google them.

They can make custom designs and I have one for my bike. It is the XXL version of around 34 inches high. It has a adjustable vent in the middle which helps in those warm summer days.

National Cycle has some nice screens for the GS.

Here is a shot of one:

Callmelenny is a member here if you want more info about that specific screen.

I started riding a year ago this month. So far I've done:

01 Reflex - 1000+ miles
03 SilverWing - 8000+ miles
05 V Star 1100 - 1986 miles

By the time I ride home tonight, I'll have 2K miles on the V*.

I've put 10K miles on in one year. Not much compared to some of you; but a good start for a first year rider.

After we go to Knoxville and back next week, I'll probably have added another 2500-3000 miles. Yee Haw!

No telling. No odometers on the dirt bikes. I'd say over 50k on street though.

Just on the bikes I have now, totaled together, about 74,000 miles.
Prolly somewhere north of 200,000 for my whole career I would guess...
