i was scoping ebay for a wide angle lens and prices are cheap. i mean like 25 bux. is this right? is the wide angle just an attachment that snaps on the end of an existing lens or is it a lens all in itself?

Depends on the camera. If your using a DSLR, then you'll really want a replacement lens and those usually go upwards of around $500. The snap on pieces for point and shoots will give you wide angle, but will usually have horrible distortion. At least that's what I've seen in the past.

A wide angle LENS is just that. A lens. I have about a $600 wide angle lens. I don't know what the attachment things are that you speak of.

ya its a DSLR. this is what i was referring to:

if a true wide angle is supposed to be self contained then thats what ill go for tho.

Photographic equipment is like anything else, you get what you pay for. Don't waste your money on junk like that. A real lense for your SLR is going to cost a few hundred dollars minimum.

Of course, for $25, that's like pennies for camera equipment. You could always pick it up, see how it works, see if you actually use a wide angle lens, and if you don't like it or don't use it, then it was only $25.
However...you really can never have too much camera equipment. And on top of that you can NEVER have too much quality camera equipment. So I'd say you should go for the good stuff.
FYI, that isn't a lens, it is a screw on attachment.
