What about the Wimberly Pie Company?

Never been there, dont know anything about it, I just see it every time I go thru there. Maybe someone around here as some info (i.e. Bud).

Wouldnt be much of a ride for us CenTex folks but we can always make up for that by taking the long way (very long way) there.

Just an idea.

:tab There is the Farmhouse Cafe here in Huntsville. Central to most everyone, nice rides to get here for most everyone, good selection of cakes and pies, good food, nice atmosphere and can handle a pretty good sized group. Lots of parking.

Everyone at the Pie Run yesterday was thinking that it was The Koffee Kup's turn in Hico again and seemed pretty enthused about it.

Although it's an embarassingly short ride from Fort Worth, I vote for the Koffee Kup. And while we're on the subject of picking establishments worthy of our patronage, can we all agree to try to stick to places off of the beaten path? I'm sure that there are several places in Dallas, Houston, Austin or San Antonio that serve up a decent slice of pie. But if we all have to deal with a bunch of Saturday-morning, cell-phone wielding, SUV driving, Foley's Red Apple Sale stampeding, gotta get to IHOP before the crowd gets there, bunch of lunatics then what's the point? Edom was perfect. Barely three buildings in the whole town, nice and quiet. And then about twenty to thirty motorcyclists descend upon the place, eat all of their pie, trade farkle knowledge in the parking lot for about an hour, and then disappear down the twisty back roads from whence they came. If we're not careful, we may just become legendary amongst small town restauranteurs. :-D

Hico in June sounds good. :-D

BTW, is it pronounced HYE-coh or HEE-coh? :-?

I agree with Kelly - these smaller town places are more fun and less crowded. Let's keep that in the plans...

Tourmeister
05-22-2005, 09:43 PM
The problem with the small towns is that few have the economy to support decent restaurants. However, there is this little town up on FM 95 at Hwy 21... Chireno. They have a little cafe that serves good food. They have a few desserts on a regular basis and might be inclined to make more if we knew how many people would attend for sure. The roads in the area are quite fun! FM 1196... oh yeah!! They could seat 50-60 people and there is tons of parking across the street. No contact info though. Anyone near there?

Adios,

Gilk51
05-23-2005, 12:13 AM
Well, we don't want a small town to BUILD one, but if they already exist - then they have support somewhere. All we have to do is supplement their income!

From Fort Worth, we'll most likely:

Superslab it on I-20 out to Dennis Rd., just west of Weatherford
South on Dennis Rd to FM 1889
FM 1889 through Lipan to FM 1888
FM 1888 south to Hwy 377
Hwy 377 east to Bluff Dale
South on FM 2481 through Duffau
South on Hwy 220 to Hico

Anyone from D/FW who wants to go with us is welcome. I figure leaving at about 0900 from Fort Worth should get us into Hico around 1100 to 1130. We'll be in the parking lot of the Cycle Gear on Hwy 183 (Alta Mere) at 0830, kickstands up at 0900.

I used to eat at Petty's in Lindale all of the time. The food's good but I don't remember getting dessert. They serve some of the biggest onion rings I've ever seen....one order could feed a small family.

Question about the "pace" pick the one that best describe the “pace” for the Ft Worth group?
Grandma < speed limit
Mom = speed limit
Dad > speed limit
Teenage son in his new Honda with fart can >>>>> speed limit

Just wondering I do them all at times.. (provided that its safe to)

Grandma = LEO's
Mom = From one city limit to the next in the small towns along the way.
Dad = Along the FM's and Hwy's in the middle of nowhere
Teenage son in his new Honda with fart can = On your own, off of the front of the group, smoking out the LEO's for the rest of us. :-D

The above pretty much sums it up. I'm no group riding Nazi. We're going that way and if anyone else wants to go that way with us, that's cool. If we're going too slowly for anyone, they're welcome to take off and we'll meet them there. If we're going too fast for someone, we'll stop every now and then and make sure that everyone's okay. Faster riders up front, slower riders in the back. If you need to get around the guy in front of you, flash your lights and pass safely in a straight, in the other lane. If you're a squid, we'll bore you. If you're a RUB, we'll leave you. Anyone in between should have a good ride. I'm not out to tell anyone how to ride their bike. I just want to have a good ride and eat some pie.

Dunno about a meet in Venus. Kidder led the last one (the route is in the January thread, buried down deep) but I haven't seen anyone post up for this one.

Susan (Tortuga) and I have a route. Anyone wanting to join us in welcome. We will probably be somewhat slow, so you can charge ahead and wait for us along the route or at the lunch table if that is better for you. We will be doing the route regardless, if you want to join in along the way.

Start at the parking lot of the Minyards at I20 (exit 445) and Green Oaks, at their gas station. Plan is to leave close to 9 AM. We will take the "going" route and see where we are when we hit SH6 - if we are early, we'll take the FM219 loop, otherwise hi-tail it down 6 to Hico.

Going
Road - Town - Connection
Green Oaks and I20, Arlington - Minyards’ Parking Lot
US287 - to Mansfield - FM157 (Cooper St.)
FM157 - to downtown - FM917
FM917 - slab to Egan - turn right (FM917)

FM203 - to Walnut Springs - SH144
SH144 - to - FM927

51 is a great road. The one thing to watch out for is gravel especially in the corners as it's a fairly narrow road and when a cage hits the edge it throws the gravel into the road. Most of the time it's ok but sometimes it's really bad... just a heads up.

Anybody coming through Waco? I'll be working that morning and would like to hook up and ride home with you.

FYI - as of Sat June 18, 2005 FM 203 is covered with gravel. It looks like the county road crews are going to start tar and gravel the roads again this year, so be careful. It's a shame cause 203 was one of my favorite twisties. It will take several months before the gravel surface will be packed enough to be a good twisty again. :-(

Just got off the phone with Irene at the Koffee Kup and she's excited about our return visit! She immediately remembered who we were (guess 70+ bikes in January in cold/drizzly conditions leaves an impression) and she said they'll make sure to have plenty of pie ready.

Bluedogok-I specifically made mention of the strawberry pie for you. I've had it once and it was killer!

Right now if everybody shows up, including the "maybe's" we're at about 30 folks.

We need to start the weather watch...

Yuk - thanks for the heads-up - I'll prepare an alternate. Too bad, I routed in that area in order to pick up 203. Oh well.

We need to start the weather watch...
Ummm, does Buddy know about this one? :-(
(maybe he missed it) ;-)

No need to watch the weather this time.I think we are trading cold rain for hot sun for a while.Look forward to wearing a little of the flat spot off the rear tire after the trip to Alabama.

You going to make it to this one Stuart?

I sure would like to if I can break away from the business of selling my house and moving. If all goes well with the sale I may have a July 1 closing. If thats the case I will likely need that weekend to pack and prepare.

I am a big maybe at this point.

Stuart,

Where are you moving? I know I have been busy lately, not able to make many rides, but you can't just move away without saying goodbye!
Where is the love?

As to the whole point of this thread, I would love to make it, but it could cause marrital strife. There are already remarks being thrown around about how I am riding to Yellowstone, while others are having to ride the whole way in the vehicle with the kids....

Sqeaky, let me know what your plan is. Just in case I can sneak away.

OK... Who's going from the DFW Metromess? Where are we meeting? When? What route? Etc...?

Gilk51, since we're both in Arlington, do you want to meet somewhere like America's Best Coffee in front of Costco, and then hook up with any others from there?

Have fun standing around in the heat this weekend watching riders go by!

Might be able to go with the Strom this weekend after all - tomorrow I'm bringing it down for an inspection by 'qualified professionals'. Nobody seems to think the chain should need changing with only 11k miles on it...

Rex, Look on the bottom of page 5 - I have a route (may need to change due to the condition of 203) and plan on leaving the Minyards at I20 and green Oaks (SW) at 9 AM. The Minyards is good since the ramp to 287 is right there for the ride to Mansfield...

We have Chatterbox X2 FRS units. We are going to try them again - seems like one works OK and the other is glitchy. I am going to switch units with the wife and see if it is operator error.

We use channel 7 sub 7 but can switch to anything as needed. :-D

Installed today before work! :dude:
Sprockets still on back order, so they will be put on as soon as they get here. Shouldn't be too bad on the chain, considering there is very little wear on the sprockets anyway. The dealer said he'd just leave them until the next time I need a chain, but I've been taught to always change them at the same time.

I even changed the oil (and only burned myself once on the exhaust header while reaching uner the bike for the wrench - next time I'll get up and walk around  )

For anyone still wanting to join us at the Minyards at I20 (exit 445) and Green Oaks (northwest corner) and leaving at 9 AM...

Please note that I edited the route on page 5 - FM 2231 should be 2331.

If you want to use the route and not ride with us slowpokes, here it is again and a simple graphic for each way:

RTF (word/wordpad) (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/hico050625/Hico.rtf)

Will make a decision on 203 when we see it - we may try County Roar 2008 or backtrack to Glen Rose and take 144 down.

Also will decide in Iredell if we are ahead of schedule and optionally take the 219/1062 loop into Hico instead of 6.

coming from:

Figured folks will be somewhat tired and maybe hot, so the return is quicker.

I'll have copies of these for those that need them...

Wherever ya'll riding from - be careful & have fun.

I had a great time, met some of the people from the board, and stretched my waistline with a slice of apple pie (mmmm...pie). I didn't get to meet everyone I had planned on meeting, but that is just an excuse to go on another TW Texans ride.

BTW - I saw a Duc in the parking lot with some battle damage...I hope that wasn't from the ride up.

I think the operative word was HOT!. As usual, the company was great, I just regret having to slab it back for the wedding instead of getting to ride the good roads. I sure was dissapointed to find out it was an outdoor wedding. Another 5 hours in the heat.....

My Camelback was worth it's weight in gold and kept the water cold all day. I highly recommend them as your next upgrade.
