went out to the rally there this weekend and found a couple of very nice back roads both SE and South of New Ulm. Zoom to level 3 on the map to see these roads. I rode them on an FJR 1300 and had a great time.

Both of these roads have lots of 90 degree lefts and rights and are well-maintained pavement with little traffic and either one or two lanes. Be careful because most of the turns are unmarked.

If you will click on this link Yahoo map link (http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=&csz=new+ulm%2C+tx&country=us&new =1&name=&qty=)

and then zoom in to Level 3 for New Ulm you will see Bernard Road going SE out of town.

Bernard Road - goes SE out of New Ulm and kinda parallels FM 1094 towards Sealy. Take it to Bostick Road and go left to Cat Springs road and that will take you at to HW 949. You can continue SE on Cat Springs all the way to I-10 about 10 miles west of Sealy.

Zimmerscheidt Road - If you take HW 109 west out of New Ulm to Frelsburg and turn left (South) on HW 109, then go about four miles you turn left on Zimmerscheidt Road (nice big house at turn) and bear to the right on CR 42/Zimmersheidt and follow it for a great ride out in the country. It runs into Cat Spring road and you can turn left and follow it up to Bostick Road and turn left go to back into New Ulm.

Both of these roads have overhanging trees so are shaded with nice country homes ranches along the road. Some really long-horned cattle on the ranches.

Enjoy the ride.

Good to run into you at the cafe in New Ulm, Mike. Kent and I took your suggestion and really enjoyed that ride. We ended up doing it twice. 8-)

My wife and I made it to the Rallye after the BBQ Run. It was an interesting event.

Paul, good to see you and Kent also. Try the Bernard Road as it's almost as good.

Had some minor bad luck on the way home. Made a right turn off 949 onto Cat Spring road and there was about 3/4 inch of pea gravel on the road and the front tire washed out and down I went on the right side. Minor scratches on the fairing and some deep ones on the right saddle bag. Really low speed and really fast dumping me off the bike. Did everything correct except for turning onto a road with deep pea gravel.

So, the left side of my bike still looks brand new and the right side looks like it has been ridden...into the ground..

Sorry about your drop, Mike. :-( Maybe sometime I'll tell you how I periodically renew the nickname "scratch". :headbang: ;-)
