I guess I'm a big wimp but for the life of me I can't get my GSF650 onto the center stand. What's the trick to it? The guy that sold it to me raved about the bike's light weight and how easy it was to get it into the stand...he had no problems what so ever.

I'm not a muscle man, but I'm not uber weak either...this leads me to believe there is a trick to it.

Right now I have my right foot on the center stand to push it into place, I grab the center of the handle bars and the rear grab bar and push the bike back like a mad man...all it does is bounce up a bit and drop back down.

It takes 2 people and a bit of effort to get it up.

God **** pig of a bike :angryfire: :suicide:

Step down while pulling up on the bike.

On my 1100gs, I rest my hand on the left grip for balance, stand with ALL of my weight on the centerstand, grab the subframe and LIFT. It really isn't a "pull it back" but more of a "lift it up."

Cheers,

Ben

Is the bike in gear? If so, squeeze the clutch, pull the left bar closer to the tank, ease the center stand down so that both feet are on the ground, then stand tall on it and lock your leg and LEAN YOUR WEIGHT toward the rear of the bike.

The farther back you are the easier it goes up. I have a 550 lb GS and weigh 150 lbs. It works.

Wow...people reply fast on this forum!!! Thanks guys!

I have yet to try while sitting on the bike...I get the impression I'd drop it...not having my left foot to hold it up (since it would be pushing on the center stand)

LOL @ is the bike in gear...it isn't, but the brake is pulled in! :op

The wheels need to be able to roll while they're contacting the ground. I've never tried it while sitting on the bike, but I've climbed up there plenty once it's on the stand.

I was kidding about the brake being pulled in....I am quite aware that it needs to go backwards to get onto the stand :o)

So it seems like there are a multitude of methods...McConnico, you do something like I do and stand on the left side and pull back like a mad man?

Other people seem to do this while sitting on the bike?

Re: Just how do you get the **** thing on the center stand???

I haven't done it while sitting on the bike since I dropped it several years ago.

Fixed it for you. Neither have I but now that you mention it i realize it combines two of my favorite things. Now how do I work in ice cream and beer???

All these jokes and no one called me on this one

Actually I was thinking I'd let you get in a few more posts before I started taking shots at you.

My 1250 comes up almost effortlessly onto the center stand. :trust:

Awesome avitar. I like that you went straight '80s with it. None of this 'Stargate' shenanigans. That's a man who looks like he could break out of a bank vault with a Victorinox a and a timex before the carbon monoxide kills him.

MacGyver said,

Sounds like you really need to start thinking about taking some Viagra, but if you are MacGyver you should be able improvise something to help get it up by yourself.

He was my hero when I grew up! I like to think I'm a ghetto problem solver like him :lol2:

I can get my Yamaha Venture up pretty easy and it's a 1000lb motorcycle.

It's all about leverage, and what happened to your avitar? You should keep it for the 4 or 5 people on here who know what it's from. Hilarious.

Re: Just how do you get the **** thing on the center stand???

Use your left foot….Use all your weight on the stand…..Turn the bars to the left and pull back as you step down on the stand…..Balance the bike with your right hand on the grab handle…Works every time bike jumps right up on the center stand :trust:

Re: Just how do you get the **** thing on the center stand???

Getting your bike up on it's center-stand is technique.....
if you're having to use muscle, you're doing it wrong.

1) Stand the bike totally upright, front wheel pointed forward, both wheels aligned. With one hand on the left handlebar-grip and your right hand on the seat, gently push the center-stand down such that BOTH feet of the center-stand are touching the ground; your bike is now in position.

2) Find a solid wannabe 'handle' with your right hand at a position below waist level and 2/3's back of the bike (the passenger peg mount, the frame of the bike, whatever available)

3) In one smooth motion, simultaneously push down on the center-stand with your right foot while pulling up & back with your right hand, rocking the bike up onto it's center-stand. Your left hand controls the front of the bike and keeps the wheel pointed forward.

It's about timing, technique, fluid motion, and very little muscle.
