Saw a sign on the road, the Riotz camera in Katy Mills is closing and they've got everything 20% - 40% off, so I went and checked it out.
Cameras and lenses are only 20% off right now, but the guy told me they would drop again tonight, so I'll go back Thursday.
He did say the cameras would probably only go down another 5%, but it was likely the lenses could drop another 10%

Oooooooo, really? Ok, then I'm there to see what they have... Where are they in the mall?

If you enter from the food court you go across and turn right

It's down close to where I get my hair cut at the old Jillians, and then Steve and Barry's entrance

So, it's to the right of the AMC? :lol2:

I believe most or all Wolf Camera Shops are also closing as a result of the bankruptcy of the parent company ( Ritz?).

Be very careful with the Ritz/Wolf Camera bankruptcy clearance. There is a lot of documentation (google it because I don't have time or energy to do it) on-line about the company who is doing the "clearance" for them. It is the same company that did CompUSA and Circuit City's bankruptcy clearance. Pricing in both cases was jacked up to compensate for the reductions. All sales are final even if it was defective when you arrive home. Several manufacturers refused to honor warranties because CUSA and CC could not prove in certain cases that the products sold were brand new vs used (returned) or reboxed demos. Some folks bought items without opening boxes and got home to find bricks or other items in the boxes vs the items they thought they were buying.

Bottomline, in my opinion. Stay away from bankruptcy or store closing sales at all costs. You can get the same items from a reputable retailer at near or below the clearance price because of negotiations.

Just remember. Caveat emptor

There is another Ritz camera in Katy at SH99 @ Highland Knolls. I'll check tomorrow and see if it is going out of business also.

That's the one that's closer to me than the one in Katy Mills. They do a good job of photo printing on their machine so I guess I need to get my little jump drive together and get some prints made.

I looked at several items during the Circuit City closing sale and in every instance it was cheaper (in some cases substantially cheaper) somewhere else.

And I am not talking serious searching. I mean driving across the street to the MicroCenter or checking Amazon.

Wouldn't it be pleasant to open the box and find a live mouse skittering around inside? How can the law not be on your side if you found freaking bricks instead of an Xbox?

It's true. The "savings" were horrific. :thumbd:

If they go out of business it's pretty sad. I've worked for several electronics retailers and they were the only one I felt confident about selling the extended warranty on because they really did stand behind it. Good service and we almost always beat out the big box stores. Funny thing was people never understood that and would go buy their camera from Best Buy because they figured a camera store would be more expensive.

Oddly enough, this thread has mentioned three of my former employers.

The prices I saw at Ritz were as good as you can find just about anywhere, then 20% off. Lenses tend to be price controlled it seems (especially the NIkkor and such)

Wolf Camera, and Ritz are the same companies and both are paring down. Here in the DFW area several are being closed down and are in their last week of operations. Yhere will be a couple of stores that will remain open.

I wouldn't buy too many gift cards from them (lol).

Was in the mall last night getting a hair cut and walked of to see what they had left. I got really excited to see the 70% - 90% off sign, and then saddened what I found they had nothing for my D40

I went by this one afterwards to see if they were closing and what they had left, and they appear to be business as usual.

Good to know that we get to keep at least one. They have a really good pic printer and their staff seems to know a bit more about how to make minor adjustments to printed digital pics.

They have a really good pic printer and their staff seems to know a bit more about how to make minor adjustments to printed digital pics.I used to work there, they are one of the few printing establishments that manually adjust pretty much every photo that comes through. My wife ran the lab at one of the busiest of the DFW shops for a while. They also have some of the top of the line equipment. We got to where we knew the models and became printing snobs such that we would wrinkle our noses at the budget model printers at Wal-Mart and Target. :lol2:

Don't know if I've mentioned it, but after working at many electronics stores, they also have the best warranty you can purchase on the market and actually stand behind it. I hate sales work, and always hated pushing those warranties except at Wolf/Ritz. I'd seen how it works and what you get and it's well worth the cost. Can't say the same for Best Buy or CompUSA.
