It was a domestic shootout night. lots a mustangs, a bunch of camaros. My 2 favorites were a chevy II that was real quiet and streetable, yet blew serious doors off with 10.4 sec runs. chevy II's wife also runs a chevy II [wagon] that ran 12.2. my other favorite was a daily driver primered 55 chevy 4 door. I guess dude saw "2 lane black top" and decided to live the experience. had a really nice exhaust note to it.

this is a motorcycle board isnt it? oh yeah.. 4 bikes showed up. one vintage kz 900 or 1000. he had trouble launching. starting with his feet off the pegs, if it didnt bog and wheelie, he have trouble finding the left side footpeg to snick it into second. his best pass 12.9 at 101. I would have tried to launch with my left foot on the peg if i was him.

one of the first guys there was on a blue and silver busa. It looked stock. He made more passes than anybody. pretty consistent at 10.5 133 +/- 2. he never did burn outs and only wheelied once. one time i thought he's got himself another kill when he pulled up next to a mustang, and son of a gun, the stang ran 10.2 . must have had a few more ponys than stock under the hood.

half way thru the evening a zx12-r with a noisy pipe showed up. He felt the need to do burnouts . and after burning out he'd do a little wheelie that seemed to spook him when he launched. he had better final speeds than the busa but i don't think he ever beat him.

and the last bike to show was a copper colored busa that ran a 10.3 something.

they have a bike shootout night once a month but i think i'd rather take the beastly concours on a night when the squid factor isn't turned up to 11. If i can get a 13.75 out of it [magazines get 12.4 i think], i would be pretty happy.
its $10 to watch and $15 to race. anybody interested?

:tab Sounds like fun! I just wish it wasn't so far away :-( I think there is a strip in Navasota where folks can run what they bring. I think a lot of the Houston area squids head up there to use up their tires  Might be fun to check it out sometime.

Adios,

July 16th there is an all motorcycle race in Rusk, TX at Cherokee Dragstrip, July 17th is the motorcycle, King of the Track, at Red River Raceway just north of Shreveport, La.
And if you are too fat to get your feet on the pegs, like I am, then use an electric or air shifter, and just push the horn button to shift. I can never get my feet on the pegs untill I cross the 1/4 mile line.

A KZ1000 at 12.9? Sheesh, used to run mid twelves on my old RD350. I wasn't very consistant on that thing, though. It was bracket racing and I'd dial a 13, usually, and TRY to run it if I had to back off or get after it if I screwed the peaky two stroke start. Never won at it.

Be careful... you may get hooked on that stuff.

Back when Moby Dick was a Minnow, I tried that Drag stuff. Started out taking my Z-1 to the track to "see what she'd do".

Ended my "career" with a Car-Tire type Pro Stocker. Even piloted a friend's Turbo/Nitrous Funny bike for a while.

Never did break the 200 mph mark though. Came close a couple of times, but that big prize eluded me. :rider:
